FANTASY FIGHTS
- Head to Head -
....................................................................................................

This is where we pit two past prime fighters against eachother and see who picks who to win, and who comes out the victor.

All matchups are open to vote by anyone who has placed a pick for the league this year. The voting never stops so if two months from now you place a pick for a matchup we already did, just quote the matchup and cast your vote and I will get it added.

This is not who has a better legacy, but who would in a fight between the two, the majority of the time.

Now, lets pit the best vs the best and see whos left standing when the dust settles.

....................................................................................................

For the second matchup, a young, prime Vitali Klitschko goes up against a young, undefeated George Foreman. Pitting the iron chinned giant vs the power punching bull. Who wins? You decide.

VITALI vs FOREMAN

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Vitali Klitschko
43-2 (40 KO's)
Height - 6'7
Weight - 245lbs
Reach - 80''

George Foreman
76-5 (68 KO's)
Height - 6'3''
Weight - 220lbs

* DANS BREAKDOWN *
Two super heavyweights in their prime and I think this would be a very fun to watch because it is highly intriguing with a lot of question marks as well. Foreman a devastating power puncher vs Klitschko a tough, awkward, fighter. Dissecting what Foreman was all about was he was very intimidating and a bully. I don't think any of this would affect Klitschko. Who is just a big bully as well. As mentioned earlier, Foreman had brutal power, but Vitali Klitschko has a very strong jaw. Foreman didn't have good stamina. In his prime, he would get you out early, and if he couldn't he would tire out. Vitali Klitschko has great stamina and when you factor in his output for a big man like he it is outstanding! Then we go over to Vitali's side. He is a man that has barely lost a couple handful of rounds in his career, but at the same time...who has he fought? He really hasn't been fully tested and really pushed. It only, unfortunately, has happened 1 time and that was a loss to Lennox Lewis. But, he was up in the fight and was stopped on cuts. If he doesn't get that cut, he may pass that test with flying colors, but then again, it was against a faded ATG in Lennox Lewis who was a bit out of shape. So, basically, what I'm getting at it is tough to really say how Vitali Klitschko stacks up head to head with some of the all-time greats, like Foreman, because he is definitely thee most unproven all-time Heavyweight. Alongside his brother, Wladimir. So, really going over this fight I got to think Foreman has a good chance, but if he doesn't get Vitali Klitschko out of there after 4 or 5 rounds I feel that Vitali Klitschko slowly starts to dominate and really put it on Foreman in the middle to late rounds. And with that I think he beats Foreman by decision and may'be knocks him out, but I think the safe bet is Vitali Klitschko via UD.

LEAGUE SCHEDULER

PINOY PRODIGY

* Result Commentary by Robney
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

2/3 - Ovill Mckenzie Vs. Tony Dodson - Commonweath Title 12x3 ( Boxnation Fight Night ) Mckenzie TKO3 (Dodson lying helpless in the ropes)
2/3 - Isaac Chilemba Vs. Edision Miranda - 10x3 ( ESPN 2 FNF ) Chilemba UD (97-91/96-92/96-92 Both had one point deducted at the same time. I had it 95-93)
2/3 - Hylon Williams Jr Vs. Rances Barthelemy - 8x3 ( ESPN 2 FNF ) Barthelemy UD (80-72/79-73/79-73 I had it 79-73 too)
2/4 - Steve Cunningham Vs. Yoan Pablo Hernandez - 12x3 ( ARD Fight Night/Boxnation ) Hernandez UD (116-110/116-110/115-111) Like in the 1st bout USS was down and clearly very hurt early -down twice in 4- recovered and came back very well. He was in trouble again in the 12th but survived. Scoring was all over the place in IB's RbR, but I had it close but clear for Yoan.
2/4 - Alexander Alexeev Vs. Enad Licina - 12x3 Vacant EBU Title ( ARD Fight Night/Boxnation ) Alexeev UD (118-110/116-112/118-112 My first wrong pick of the weekend... Alexeev outboxed Licina clearly over 12)
I thought O'Connor scored it for Licina at first (German broadcast) but he was just less off as usual
2/4 - Eduard Gutneckht Vs. Viacheslav Uzelkov - 12x3 EBU Title ( ARD Fight Night/Boxnation ) Gutknecht UD (115-114/116-112/117-111 Uzelkov clearly the stronger guy, and Gutknecht the typical German boxer outboxing the Ukranian)
2/4 - Nonito Donaire Vs. Wilfredo Vazquez Jr - 12x3 Vacant WBO Bantumweight title ( HBO ) Donaire SD (112-115/117-110/117-110, closer fight as expected but in no way it was a Vasquez bout who was down in the 9th and hurt several times) I had it 116-111 Donaire who hurt his left hand
2/4 - Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Vs. Marco Antonio Rubio - 12x3 WBC Middleweight title ( HBO ) Chaver jr. UD (118-110/116-112/115-113) Jr. was walking Rubio down all night and landing the better punches. I'm still no Chavez jr. fan, but I've changed my mind about him! (116-112 by me)
2/4 - Scott Quigg Vs. Jamie Arthur - 12x3 BBBofC British Title ( Sky Sports ) Quigg TKO8 (weird stoppage, after Quigg being down himself in the 4th)

2/10 - Luis Alberto Lazarte vs. Johnriel Casimero - 12x3 Interim IBF Light Flyweight Title (TyC Sports) Casimero TKO10
2/11 - Samuel Vargas vs. Manolis Plaitis - 10x3 (Boxing Channel) Vargas KO1

2/17 - Mike Dallas Jr. vs. Miguel Gonzalez - 10x3 (ESPN 2 FNF) - Dallas UD
2/17 - Thomas Dulorme Vs. Aris Ambriz - 10x3 (Showtime Shoebox)
Dulorme TKO1
(Ambriz down twice, completely overmatched by Dulorme's power and accuracy)

2/18 - Adonis Stevenson vs. Jesus Gonzales - 12x3 IBF Inter-Continental Title Super Middleweight Title (Canada PPV) - Stevenson KO1 (according to Intentional, so obviously right)
2/18 - Brian Magee vs. Rudy Markussen - 12x3 Interim WBA Super Middleweight Title (Denmark TV 3/ Boxnation?) Magee KO5 (bodyshot. didn't see the fight myself... ask Beastside for the details)
2/18 - Vitali Klitschko Vs. Dereck Chisora - 12x3 WBC Heavyweight Title (EPIX/Boxnation/RTL)
Vitali UD12 (118-110/118-110/119-111 Chisora is clearly insane, but kept on coming eating right hands all night showing a tremendous chin and having occasional succes too... spitted water in Wlad's face in the ring. Clearly the most dangerous British heavyweight of the post Lewis era)
2/18 - Paul Williams vs. Nobuhiro Ishida - 12x3 (Showtime) - Williams UD (120-108 x3 unoamsayin'. A real win this time unoamsayin', PeeWee outboxed Ishida down the stretch unoamsayin')
2/18 - Tavoris Cloud vs. Gabriel Campillo - 12x3 IBF Light Heavyweight Title (Showtime) - Cloud Robbery SD (115-111/110-116/112-114 Campillo down twice but gave Cloud fits in the rest of the rounds! TERRIBLE ROBBERY!!!)
2/18 - Chris Arreola vs. Eric Molina - 12x3 (Showtime) - Arreola KO1 (Like expected, but directly after being hurt himself!)
2/18 - Jorge Arce vs. Lorenzo Parra - 10x3 (Azteca) - Arce KO

2/19 - Garth Wood vs. Sam Soliman - 12x3 Interim IBF Pan Pacific Middleweight Title - Soliman UD

2/24 - Juan Carlos Burgos vs. Cristobal Cruz - 12x3 (ESPN 2 FNF)
2/25 - Alexander Povetkin vs. Marco Huck - 12x3 WBA Heavyweight Title (EPIX/Boxnation/ARD)
2/25 - Ermano Fegatilli vs. Antonio De Vitis - 12x3 EBU Super Featherweight Title (Sportitalia)
2/25 - Nathan Cleverly vs. Tommy Carpency - 12x3 WBO Light Heavyweight Title (EPIX/Boxnation)
2/25 - Denis Shafikov Vs. Lee McAllister - 12x3 EBU Light Welterweight Title (Sky Sports)
2/25 - Juan Jose Montes vs. Oscar Ibarra - 12x3 WBF & IBF International Super Flyweight Titles
2/25 - Marcos Rene Maidana vs. Devon Alexander - 12x3 (HBO)
2/25 - Adrien Broner vs. Eloy Perez - 12x3 WBO Super Featherweight Title (HBO)

For the first matchup I had to use Ali vs Tyson. It pits two of the most famous heavyweights ever against eachother in a classic, if not cliche at this point, lol, matchup.

Dan's Breakdown
A Very popular fantasy match up between two of the most popular Heavyweights ever. The great part about that is everybody knows who they are, what they did, and who they did it against. I don't have to go into great detail about Ali's style of how he bounced on his toes, hands low, flicked out a jab, followed by a beautiful straight right, and continued to dance while he did all that. And Tyson, gloves up in a peekaboo style, bobbing n weaving, firing a quick hard bomb, a bomb if landed, that more than likely dropped whoever was standing in front of him. Well look at that, I ended up describing their style anyway. Well, if you didn't know what they did, now you know. Alright, now going back to their popularity, these are two of the most popular boxers, ever. Everybody knows who these fighters are. You say "Ali" everybody quickly thinks Muhammad Ali. If you say "Tyson" everybody assumes you are talking about Mike Tyson. With that though, that doesn't mean this would be a close battle where if they fought 10 times each fighter would win 5 times each. I think this fight is pretty easy, to be honest. I think this is a fight where everybody looks at that one attribute, Mike Tyson's power, and overrates him. When one fighter has power, everybody gets crazy and automatically loves him and talks about that power, but when a fighter neutralizes that power, then that fighter has problems. In this fight, I don't like Tyson's chances at all, I think he has a small puncher's chance and that is it. Tyson was strong and powerful, but his power could be neutralized and with that said let's take a look at common styles.

Muhammad Ali fought "Smokin" Joe Frazier. He definitely could resemble a Mike Tyson clone. A small heavyweight, with powerful hands, especially the left hook, head movement for 3 minutes a round, and massive heart and chin. Now, Tyson made be a little bit more powerful, a little more quicker...for arguments sake let's say he was a little quicker and a little more powerful than Frazier, the big edge is that Frazier was an unstoppable machine. He was the energizer bunny, he just kept coming and coming and coming. Tyson was never like that. Tyson, mentally, could unravel and he could become frustrated, and that is the BIG key in this fight. Ali frustrating Tyson with movement and Tyson not being able to get Ali out of there early. His only big attribute over Ali, his power. Ali had a big heart, and a big chin, he could definitely take a punch. Anyway, going back to the common styles theme. who did Tyson fight that was a common style to Ali? Well, he fought this man named James "Quick" Tillis. He fought Tyson when he was a young, up and coming prospect who knocked out everybody. Tillis, who was trained by Angelo Dundee, was able to move, and really have his moments against Tyson. It was a very close fight, a fight in which Tyson obviously won. Tillis though, while quick, is nowhere near the level of skill of an Ali. Tillis, didn't have the skills, stamina, (or the hands of stone like the champ from Panama. wink wink) or chin of an Ali. Definitely, a big gulf in class when comparing Ali and Tillis.

So, with all that said above, style wise, and common opponents style wise. I would feel very confident in saying Ali would pretty much dominate the fight against Mike Tyson. Early rounds, very tense, very dramatic, as Tyson loops with fire bombs they may catch Ali's attention, but Ali stays calm and patient and continues scoring with the jab. 4th or 5th round, Tyson starts getting a little flustered as he's down on points, but Ali quite often took a round or two off here and there if he knew that he was in control. I believe in the middle of this fight he starts slowing down a bit hanging on the ropes, Tyson fires away, Ali rolls from the punches. The punches look like they are doing a lot of damage, but Ali is being sneaky by rolling with them. He holds Tyson's head a bit, that pisses Tyson off which, mentally, starts messing with Tyson as well. Late in the fight Ali is now comfortably ahead, and the danger of Tyson's power is over. Tyson is getting tired, frustrated. Ali meanwhile is continuing a nice pace. Boxing, moving, etc. And every once and awhile lands a nice 4, 5, 6 punch combo that backs up Tyson just a hair. Championship rounds are a bit like the last couple of rounds, 7-9, Ali is dominating and Tyson is getting swelling up and winging punches, but they have no effect, and they miss. Ali cruises to a 9-3 type 12 rounds decision. Three more rounds though, and I think Ali stops Tyson. The reason why I don't think Ali stops Tyson within 12 rounds is because it took James Douglas 10 rounds to finally stop Tyson, and Douglas hit harder than Ali, and Douglas throughout the fight was throwing everything, but the kitchen sink at Tyson. But sticking with that though as well. A big 6'3 Douglas was able to jab and keep Tyson on the outside, but took risks by throwing tons of punches at him and, for the most part, staying in the pocket. Ali wouldn't take those risks and he would just dance away. So, that is why I would take Ali by decision rather than stoppage, but if it's 15 rounds, then Ali has a great chance to stop him.

Our Picks: Ali vs Tyson

Ali

Chatty - if were going prime for prime im going Ali TKO, i dont thinki Tyson could deal with his speed and after about 6-7 rounds would implode. i just don't think Tyson has the mental ability to deal with Ali

By UD

I went to the first page, went to the fantasy fight page (and the link brings me to the 2011 thread) and then I quote the fight page to update it with maldens picks and when it posted.... because the page I quoted was in 2011 even though I got there from 2012, it bumped the 2011 one.

3/3 Vicente Escobedo vs. Lonnie Smith 10x3 (TeleFutura)

3/7 Daniel Geale vs. Osumanu Adama 12x3 IBF Middleweight Title

3/7 Billy Dib vs. Eduardo Escobedo 12x3 IBF Featherweight Title

That can potentially be confusing. People need to write the whole name of those two in their picks
