I doubt they have a cradle to grave nanny state like the Greeks, though. They also have a bunch of higher ups in their government that have Israeli citizenship, not the least of which is their Minister of Defense who orchestrated that massacre of ethnic Russians in Southern Ossetia.

They're in the Caucasus not the Balkans, two different places seperated by the Black Sea although both regions are a clusterfuck of different nations and tribes with very complicated histories riddled with conflict.

- we were talking about foreign leaders. Austrians are a germanic tribe that speak a germanic language and up until the 19th century their sense of identity and nationalism was rather undefined with many seeing themselves as Germans. Comparing that to Georgia and Russia there is no comparison, they have nothing in common aside from Georgia having been incorporated into the Soviet Union.

and on that note i just watched Gerber-Page and was impressed. He seems to have improved his footwork and movement in the last year or two looking more fluid and comfortable in there. He used to look very rigid stiff and had kind of a awkward stance.

Of course I am aware of the geography of the Balkans and the Caucasus. I simply thought there was some ancient connections the Georgians had with any peoples of the Balkans. It sort of came out choppy/inarticulate in my post.

Just watched his fight from saturday against Mazikin.

I still think he's a bit too stiff & flat footed at the moment, he seems to be very methodical & doesnt have much variety in his work.

He should be moving on beyond journeyman now & facing someone half-decent soon.

Edmund Gerber will be fighting Maurice Harris (IBF #6) on May 5 in a Sauerland-promoted event in Erfurt, Germany. The veteran Harris, who stopped Derric Rossy in his last fight, is a dangerous puncher with a questionable chin.

Age 23 Gerber (19-0) is making nice progress and is fighting the right opponents for now. Compare his opposition to that of age 26 Deontay Wilder.

If Gerber defeats Harris, he'll receive an IBF ranking.

Very nice. If he wins he'll be top ten so perhaps Gerber and Pulev/Dimitrenko will both be serious contenders in a few months and looks like Povetkin might finally step up now too after the Huck scare. New crop is just about set for the Klychko's.

Gerber vs Rossy is a nice fight. I fully expect Gerber to win, but Harris has always been very capable.
