Defeat will do that to you.

But an "aura" is not reality. If he were actually invincible he would not have lost.

If I look at your three sentences, I don't actually see anything that isn't patently obvious.

I don't believe I said he was invincible. Rather, he had an aura of invincibility, somewhat akin to what Tyson had in the late 80's.

A lot of the game is psychological. (Floyd's avoidance of Pac, Hagler's reticence to unload on Duran, Spinks nervousness facing Tyson, etc.) The aura of invincibility is part of the arsenal till it's taken away. And it took what many believe to be the GOAT to pull that off.

How George's career might have unfolded had Ali suffered a career-ending injury in September, 1974, would be purely a matter of speculation.

And we would all have our own take on such a question.
