Jock McAvoy would have beaten all of them, think of the period and the men he faced, times multiple fights...
Jock, apart from the best in Britain & Europe, he 'claimed' America in 3 fights, and in the 4th, he went to town with ONE of the greatest fighters (L-HW), of All-time in JHL... McAvoy forsure, yet at home he (aswell as others), was guided safely from from the MOST FEARED fighter in British boxing history, the Scots middleweight Bert Gilroy, 1938-45. McAvoy No Doubt! |

Wow the guy's from rochdale!
Hard to say. He was the best regional fighter for quite some time but when he stepped up against lewis and thil he lost. Benn wasn't very good but he could crack. Eubank wasn't very proven. Watson and collins are hard to predict. Calz beat the best in his division but struggled greatly against hopkins. Froch has fought the best in his division but struggled with dirrell and ward. The guys from rochdale so I don't wanna pick against him. I'm staying on the fence. |

No Contest,
look at the the time & period, the fighters, known & unknown and what was ultimately achieved and what we since know and just how much they had to do? No doubt, McAvoy!!! |

He was probably best suited to fight at 168 pounds.
At his peak he absolutely murdered Babe Risko, middleweight titlist, in an over-the-limit non-title fight - and he then went the distance with John Henry Lewis (perhaps the greatest light-heavyweight). As a super-middle he would have been smack bang in his element. |

it surprises me how McAvoy seems to get overlooked, he is among the greatest middleweights of alltime and yet people either don't realise that or just plain forget him.
