I would pick Max Schmeling to win this fight. Quarry would have some good rounds early on, but eventually Schmeling's generalship would turn the fight into his favor. Max could take a good punch and give one as well, especially with his right. Quarry did well as long as a fight went his way, but if it didn't he would get flustered and start to gas. Against a Max Schmeling this could make for a long night. I pick Max by TKO by round 10.

Schmeling is hard to beat if you donīt have any physical advantages over him. There are only very few fighters who donīt Iīd pick over him, like Marciano. Schmeling has better ring generalship, better defence, an at least equal chiin, better accuracy and more power than Quarry. Quarry would have some success early on but Schmeling would take over in the midrounds and from round 7-8 it would be one-sided and end with a stoppage around round 10-12, depending on the ref.

Prime for prime, Schmeling would punch him around the ring.

Schmeling should be able to take this. I like Quarry and struggle to see how he wins this. I think he could cause some trouble along the way, but ultimately Max has got to much...Max stops him around the 9th.

In prime vs. prime,,,,,,,,,,,and over 15-Rounds,,,,in 'real men territory'.

Max Schmeling,,,, 6' 1" - 187 lbs. - 76" Reach - 56 Wins (37 KO's) 66% KO-Rate
Jerry Quarry,,,,,,, 6' 0" - 195 lbs. - 72" reach - 53 Wins (33 KO's) 62% KO-Rate

Maxie by a decision.

No easy fight here, as Jerry's left hook will rock Max more than a few times.
And Jerry will score a flash-knockdown early in the fight, in Round 3.

But the 'granite jaw' of Schmeling will hold up, causing Quarry to get that
typical 'defeatist attitude' which he was famous for.

In Round 8, Quarry's stamina problems arrive, and his power advantage is
no longer a factor. He begins to fade mid-way through the round, as
Maxie turns aggressor.

Schmeling puts on the pressure in Rounds 9 and 10, and has his best rounds
of the fight. Though the fight is dead-even on the Computer Scorecard,
it is obvious that the fight has swung over to Max.

Max has his best round in the 11th. Several counter right-hands over Quarry's
low left shake the Californian to his shoes. Max keeps Jerry pinned on the ropes,
where he scores without any return.

In Round 12, Schmeling takes a breather, after sweeping the previous 4 rounds.
Jerry Quarry has a brief rally early in the round, but Maxie regains control in
the second-half of the round.

Schmeling, the smarter fighter of the two, picks up the pace, and sweeps the
last 3 rounds to score a clear-cut decision. (In rounds 8-4-3),,,,,,,

Computer Results by Rounds; Q E Q Q S - Q E S S S - S E S S S
* Quarry scores a flash-down over Schmeling in Round 3.

Max would be the ring general in this one. He'd succeed at imposing his counter-punching preference over Jerry's, then his superior stamina, better pacing and economy would begin to tell. There's a real possibility Schmeling's sharpshooting right forces a stoppage on cuts over JQ's left eye. I look at the energy Max displayed throughout against Strib in Cleveland, and just can't see Jerry prevailing against that. He had good power, but not peak Larruper (who needed ten rounds) or peak Bomber (who did lose after 12 the first time) type power. The Belter could take a helluva shot, and it's a good thing, because I think he'd be taking a helluva lot of them.

Another damn Quarry thread... I'll take Max by decision. Quarry has his moments, especially early, but by the middle rounds Max clearly has control of the fight.

Max was actually a little taller and had a longer reach. Their weight is close, Quarry would be just a few Lbs. heavier.

Max was quicker, more accurate and punched harder. He was also the better overall boxer.

Quarry had the better chin but he doesn't have enough power to make it a factor in this fight. Quarry would get cut but I think he would last the distance.

Max knocked out Young Stribling, Mickey Walker, Steve Hamas, and Joe Louis among others. He outboxed Paulino Uzcudun x3 and Jack Sharkey (Sharkey got the win though) among others.

Max Baer fought the best fight of his career in 1933 vs. Max Schmeling. Baer stopped Schmeling in the 10th. Quarry didn't have the fire power, height, reach, or strength of Baer.

Remember, we are talking about prime vs. prime. Max's best years were between 1929-1937. During that stretch he went 12-3-1 (8KO) overall and 2-1 (1) in HW World Title Fights. The only losses were to Jack Sharkey LSD15 (he went 1-1 vs. Sharkey), LKOby10 Baer, and L12 Steve Hamas (he went 1-1 (1) vs. Hamas). The draw was vs. Uzcudun (he went 2-0-1 vs. Uzcudun). He had also beat Johnny Risko KO9, Uzcudun x2, Sharkey, Stribling, Walker, Walter Neusel KO9, Hamas KO9, Louis, and Steve Dudas KO5 among others.

Jerry Quarry scoring

He wins rounds 1, 3, 4 and 6 against Max Schmeling.
His famed left hook rocks Maxie in the 1st round.

After shaking Max with a left hook in Round 3, Jerry
pops in a left-right-left combination which scores a
flash knockdown.

Another left hook buckles the legs of Schmeling in the
4th round, but Quarry can't find the homerun punch.

I'll go with popular opinion and pick Schmeling, but it would be no easy proposition.

Der Maxie was 'rock-hard' at 187 lbs. He ain't no Bepi Ros.

After Jerry Quarry lands his best bombs in the early rounds,
his power starts to escape. He is forced to box from mid-range,
which is Der Maxie's strength.

Mid-way through Round 8, Max gets the Panzer-Tank going, and
starts to steam-roll through Quarry's defense.
