I think his best performances were against Caldwell, Caraballo and Ramon Arias (from what I read, there is no footage against Arias and incomplete footage against Caldwell and Caraballo)...

The win over Cuevas for me ranks higher than the execution of Duran.

Duran knew what he was in for that night and in fairness took his licks like a man, but I can't over-credit Hearns for that, tbh.

I'd rate the win over Hill as his best, then Cuevas, though I think the performance of his career was the loss to Leonard in 81.

How many people could you realistically expect to beat that tommy hearns at 154 pounds?

Phenomenal. I used to class hsi cuevas victory as his best, but this here was something else. Duran was stripped of his title as well so it would have been a unification bout.

Noone ever dominated Duran that way in the rest of his career (spanning a further 20 years )

Absolutely one of the greatest performance in filmed boxing history.
Yeah, agree with the closing statement.

The duran that hearns beat was much better than the cuevas that hearns beat.

It certainly wasn't a prime duran, but a past prime duran was still better than most boxers out there.

His win over hill is ridiculous. A past prime ww has no right outboxing the best lhw in the world.

So vic, if you could somehow use a time machine to say put a 1962 version of jofre in there with the harada, do you think jofre could do it?

Yeah...I think so..

I think he was a bit faster some years ago....and other important point is : If at least one of the fights was outside Japan would be different.....
And Im not talking about judges......but I think Jofre would feel much more confortable and at least would win more of these close rounds......
Put the two bouts in Brazil and I think Eder would win both...he would fight better and I dont have doubt that Harada would feel uncomfortable to fight away from home against passionate and intense fans as the Brazilian are....

And then.....with two wins against Harada I think everything would be different today rating him in an ATG ranking !

His reflexes seemed hit and miss in the fights he had. Sometimes he'd catch him perfectly and keep him at range, other's harada would confuse him with angles and leave him looking vulnerable.

The irony is, had he twice beaten harada, fighting himself would not be seen as a great bw and jofre would probably have just lost to rose instead.

He'd still be the greatest bw in history, he'd just have two extra defences

you might change your mind when you watch something like Minchillo

Not that Hearns is a bad pick, he's probably in the top 2 for most, as far as actual modern jr middle fighters go, but just the Duran fight doesn't tell the whole story

I can easily see Hearns winning the early rounds... only to be brutally stopped by Mighty McCallum in the championship rounds!

As I say, LMR>McCallum, especially as a possible pick to beat Hearns IMO.

I would say they are the two best picks though. You'd need a solid technician at range and in close with a bit of pop and a stout chin. In that respect, Rodriguez and McCallum are not dissimilar.

What?

You only say that cuz you scored all four Griffith fights as wins for El Feo!

McCallum beat Kamambay himself!
And nobody ever beat Kalambay.
Nobody.

(Nunn doesn't count)
