Speed doesn't win everything. Cotto has a lot of variation that's gonna confuse Floyd. As long as Miguel fights smart, he at least takes it to the cards. It's gonna be a frustrating fight for Mayweather, and when Cotto edges a debatable decision on the cards.. Floyd will retire and we'll never have to hear from him again

I'm a cotto fan too. But it's going to be spectacular from mayweather.

Iv got a feelin he's going to be as brilliant this fight as he was vs Gatti and Corrales.

It's enough to beat Cotto IMO.

Also, Floyd can ape Cotto's style brilliantly He knows exacty what he's up against, and Cotto does throw very wide when throwing in combination especially. Floyd will walk him on to all sorts and evade his punches with ease. Cotto is not slow but not particularly fast and that plays right into Floyd's defensive game.

I'd love it if I was completely wrong of course!

Cotto is levels above either of those guys.

I think he can. A jaded and battered Cotto caught clean, stunned, backed up, and Floyd tagging him? He might not have the resilience he had for the Pacqiuao fight, so it might not take that kinda' beating (and it was a Hell of a beating) but remember how CLOTTEY managed to really stress him out? I had Cotto a pretty clear winner but Floyd can finish Cotto if he's in that kinda' state IMO.

Not likely, but not an impossibility either. Far more likely than Cotto doing any substantial damage.

Agree 100%. Floyd looked that great against those guys (moreso Gatti of course) because they weren't all that and were tailor made for him.

Cotto is more rounded then those guys. He'll take a shellacking, but has more than enough tools to stop himself taking that kinda' beating. He has a real awareness of defence, just isn't that level of athlete that he can pull it off with real consistency.

The Gatti performance is one of the most overrated IMO. It's aesthetically pleasing, but it was against Gatti. That rules it out of being the performance and dissection of the high calibre it's often said to be.

People mistake Gatti's popularity for him being any good. He was a club fighter who was carefully matched to give him some late-career success, but he did have a heroic kamikaze style. Corrales was a good fighter, but he had a style that Floyd could pick apart.

I do think Cotto's the best challenge Floyd has faced since Hatton, but he's picked Miguel because of all the reasons you've said. He'll be competitive for a few rounds, then Floyd will have his way with him.

Floyd's a slowish starter of late, maybe age and rust?. Miguel has to jump on those early rounds and knock Floyd out of his comfort zone and not do a Mosley.

Floyd's defence will be breached Saturday night, Cotto will land but it sadly probably won't be enough to land him victory but he'll have some success in this fight IMO.

no chance, mayweather beats him in every department, he will do worse than hatton,i also don't think cotto is or has ever been 'elite',world class no doubt, but not elite.

and df,i have to disagree with gatti being a club fighter,he beat some good fighters,he was a world class brawler

I can see Cotto having some success with the body shots, but winning? It's a big ask.

If Floyd stops him it'll be via cuts around the 7th-10th Round. No way is he knocking him out clean.

He was in wars with journeymen-to-contenders for the best part. Robinson bested him, and he went life-and-death with Ward. Gatti showed some nice flourishes, but always dropped any gameplan he had when hit.

Not consistent at 'World' level at all. Not consistent at 'fringe' World level.

Also, by the time Floyd got to him, past his best and shopworn.

Don't worry, it's not all that a win for Oscar either
