4-6 weeks, yep.
But take it easy. No sparring, in my opinion

Its been a week. It just feels a tad sore. What kind of training can I get back to in a week if it goes away completely? Running? Hitting the bag? Footwork? Padwork?

Bruised a rib Jan 2009 and was working out again before the end of the month.
Broke same rib April 2009 and it was still hurting through June (every little thing made it hurt).
Same guy delivered both shots.
Funny enough, the bruising hurt more when it actually happened.
When it broke, the fluid build up made it hard to breathe.

Broken is usually 6+ weeks on the shelf, doing nothing.
With the bruise, I'd recommend 2 to 4 weeks rest and at least 6 to 8 weeks of no contact sparring.

It pisses me off I have to quit sparring, but its a chance to work on other things that will help me get hit less.

I feel almost no pain. Coughing and sneezing is fine. Just a mild sensation, not even pain.

Am I good to run or do footwork or hit the bag?

Have a bud who sparred with Manny Pacquiao and got a rib broken. He rested it for a month, but was good as new after.
