Oliver McCall v Francesco Pianeta next Wednesday
McCall stepping in as a late replacement for Francois Botha for this 10 rounder.
I've never been impressed by Pianeta, and McCall still has it, but he'll probably turn up out of shape at such short notice. |

To be honest it's as interesting as most other matches out there at heavy. I am curious what shape McCall is coming in at. There was talk a month or so ago when they were trying to line him up for Chauncy Welliver that he was 300 pounds and needed more time. He seems to come in at reasonable shape bar a few matches, will he be under 250? He is still not bad even at his advanced age.

Welliver said that McCall was sick and pulled out, and said they'd fight when he recovered........so much for that. BS as usual from Chauncy Welliver.
This fight will be a interesting test for Pianeta as he was out of action for a while due to illness or injury (I forget exactly what his problem was). Pianeta is nothing special, but he was ranked well before he got sick or whatever and was in line for a title shot. This is a good step-back-up for Pianeta and McCall has a good chance to de-rail this undefeated HW. |

Like the Wach bout, McCall was not to be found, nor was his mgmt returning calls since they themselves had no idea where he was. MOF....it wasn't until after Chauncey signed Cooper on a weeks notice that McCall's ppl came out with the 300lbs/sick/injured/couldn't get licensed/cracked out or whichever story. As for the Pineta fight.....we'll see. McCall has unofficially signed to fight Welliver and Wach and backed out on very short notice in both cases. Pineta will probably have Gavern or Ding waiting for their airfare in case McCall doesn't show up for the weighin

Agreed, and Sauerland wasn't too eager to move him up after he struggled with Sosnowski. He's a B level fringe contender, nothing more.
