Dingaan Thobela vs Tony Lopez #1 . Lopez won d 1st rd on aggressiveness and coming 4ward , d 2nd was even , d 3rd i think thobela won , d 4th i think was even again , forgot how i scored d 5th , d heat here is killing me and i stopped scoring past d 5th or 6th i think but watched d whole fight of course . in d end it was thobela doing d more damage and being d more serious aggressor (end of rd 12) . i think thobela should have at least gotten a draw and maintain his title in this 1 . Quite a clean fight , thobela held something like 2 times in d entire fight and lopez 1ce . no KDs , maybe i found it hard 2 watch due 2 d heat but it was quite a "chessmatch/thinking man's fight" most of d time .

Watched Leonad vs Duran I and II. Back to back, I dont think Duran was much worse in the rematch, I mean he put on a good show and hadnt visibly declined. Leonard was just superb, I just think Leonard fought a great fight, I think the main difference is Leonard would tke a step backand create room something he did brilliantly in the rematch but didnt do it in the first fight.

However, I still dont know shit why Duran quit, its so ****ing random.

Michael Watson TKO6 Nigel Benn .
I gave Benn more rds 4 aggressiveness and power punching .
When Benn got hit it was usually due 2 him playing possum in order 2 draw Watson in2 slugging . Watson showed that he was a genuine British fighter by landing n accurate thumb and then when Benn had no other choice that going all out Watson KDd d visually impaired Benn and d fight was waved off when Benn got up in time .
It was at least d 2nd time that i watched it but was more concentrated this time .

Just finished up watching Bruno-Tyson 1 to start tv watchin in the morning. Of course Tyson was sloppy and swinging for the fences while Bruno held and hit and caught Tyson with more shots than he should've. Tyson fouled too with headbuts and elbows but its a fun foulfest to watch. Had that been a year ago Tyson would've been more consistent to head movement but his fault thinking all he has to do is show up. Great fight I forgot how action-packed it was. Everytime Bruno was stunned he was scared to death as usual but came to fight most of the fight whereas the rematch he held him like a prom date. Want to see a watchable,action-filled funfest? This is it. Thought the stoppage was legit.

Marlon Starling - Simon Brown This was one of my "holy grail" fights from the 80's that I somehow had never seen. I was a little disappointed. Brown was not ready for someone of Starling's calibre. I was shocked to see him backing up most of the fight. Maybe he never beats Starling but he surely gives him a better fight a couple years later. It's interesting that Brown really seemed to improve immediately after this fight. I'm sure it was a great learning experience and he didn't take a brutal beating. I had it 8-3-1 Starling and I was trying to be generous to Brown. The split decision was criminal.

I actually thought Brown was at his best around that time nat, though he probably did move a bit much against Starling and likely didn't hit his absolute prime until afterward.

He was a lot more versatile then.I'd take even that inexperienced Brown without hesistation over the flat footed plodding powerpuncher he ended up by the McGirt fight.

Hmmm, interesting angle on Brown and I see your point. The thing with Starling was that his defense was so good, even coming forward, that it seemed Brown might be better off trying to back him up or at least hold his ground a bit. Starling had the better defense and he was the agressor, so Brown didn't have much to go on to bank rounds. I do agree by the time of the McGirt fight Brown's style changed for the worse. The IBF was in it's infancy when he became champ and the level of guys he fought were a step down from Starling or McGirt.
Ultimately, this fight was an eye opener for me. I might overrate Brown and underrate Starling a bit. I didn't think the gap was as wide as this fight seems to indicate.

I rate Starling a notch or two above him myself, though i was a fan of Brown before he roboticised.

I'd compare the fight with starling for him to something like Kalule vs kalambay(for kalambay) in that he was a bit rough ring-generalship wise and not quite 100% clued in as to when to bring in all his tools to their greatest effect, and thus ended up fighting an overly respectful fight against a difficult talented style, but was already more or less very good and would have beaten the majority of other fighters in the division that night.

I think he'd do better in a rematch and it would be a more action packed ring-centre sort of fight, but still a 2-4 points loss as long as Starling was at\near his best.
