Despite the size difference there is no getting away from the size of the gap in skill, it is literally light years in favour of Willie Pep... that is not a knock on Diego Corrales, who was a good fighter & a top warrior but Pep was probably the best `boxer` that ever lived p4p.
I think a shut-out is a strong possibility in this fight tbh. Pep by wide decision. |

Corrales came into the ring somewhere around 147lbs for his 130lb fights. He was a massive 130lber and 135lber, massive power, 5 inches of height and reach advantages. This is effectively like Pep stepping up to welterweight in his own era and in a way a similar skill versus brawn match up to Saddler. Pep may well be able to outbox him for the first half of the fight but once Corrales catches up to him he's in big trouble
I'm leaning towards Corrales by KO - Pep just too small and probably giving up 20lbs, this is like putting Mayweather in with Nigel Benn or Pavlik Last edited by PowerPuncher; 05-29-2012 at 04:30 PM. |
