Default how good where the hiltons davie and mathew?

im reading about canada rivalry between the hilton brothers and non other then the gatti brothers joe and the well known arturo.

it seems that back in about 98 or so, mathew hilton was going through a bitter divorce with the gatti's sister and there was talk of mathew fighting arturo if he could get down in weight.

very interesting stuff, thats all i know but hilton brothers seem to be one of the best brother duo in boxing history.

any info about the rivalry or the hiltons would be appreciated

There was five of them originally, one got killed young, three of the remaining four turned pro. They were and are all, to varying degrees, human garbage. Dave is probably the worst - he liked to rape young girls. Alex wasn't much better, he raped other prison inmates. Mathew was the nice one - street fights and armed robbery were as far as he ever went.

As far as skill, Dave was probably the best, followed by Mathew, then Alex. They could have been big but were never really more than glorified clubfighters on the Montreal circuit - too stupid and vicious to make anything of themselves.

Mathew's fight with Doug Dewitt was one of the best I've ever seen at Jr.Middleweight. I believe it was on the undercard of Foreman vs Cooney, or somewhere thereabouts. Both men were swollen like I've never seen anyone before.

Davey had the most natural talent out of all the brothers, while Matthew had the biggest punch. Davey could have gone on to win a title had he the dedication required to make it to the top, but alas he did not and squandered his career for the most part. Matthew on the other hand did make it to the top, but his complete disdain for his training and diet made sure that his stay at the top was very short.

I remember seeing Matthew at his fathers gym here in Montreal in the St-Henri neighbourhood where I lived back then many years ago, and I asked him to hit the heavy bag while I held it so that I could feel or myself just how hard he could punch. Let me tell you folks, his left hook was a monstrous punch and he could knock you dead with it if you left your chin out there for him.

He was a nice guy too, took the time to show me a few moves and how to get full leverage on my right hook (I was a southpaw). Alex on the other is still getting into scrapes with the law to this day, last I heard he held up a little eatery with a pocket knife or something about a year ago, needless to say he went back to jail yet again.

Worse yet, it was his own two daughters that he raped.

It was actually at 160lbs...

Mathew looked the real deal to me, I saw the fight with the Irish fella (on the undercard of Tyson/Biggs), he looked brilliant, although the opposition was not up to much. The Bam Bam Hines defeat was a huge suprise (to me and a few others, athough that too, was a good fight), he was never quite the same again, but like you suggest the DeWitt fight was fun.

Been about 18 years since I've seen that fight, but it was great from what I remember.

Mathew Hilton was awesome when he beat Benitez and Antufermo on the way up. He almost literally tore Vito's lower lip off his face from what I read at the time. He looked like he was going to knock Buster Drayton out early too but won a decision as it turned out. Some say he was never quite the same after that bruising encounter. Davey was a skilled counterpuncher. I saw him beat a french guy from Canada about 8 years ago or so.

There was some talk in late-1985 about Mathew Hilton taking on Duran. Duran would have gotten motivated for that and it would have been special.
