we never saw the best of sands. he was killed at 26yo (from memory). he would have peaked at about 30yo. he could box or punch, was an older style of fighter and learned from his wins and losses.
hagle was still finding his way at 26 also. i think he had a loss or 2 at that age. who wins and why. |

Hagler at 26 was pretty much at his peak.
Really hard to say if Sands would have peaked at 30...whats to say he wasn't already there..He had been fighting since 15 and had a lot of miles on the clocks in terms of fights. I think he was pretty much cut done in his prime |

People trying to put an age number as to when somebody peaks is ridiculous.
Perfect examples are Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. At 19 - 22 Tyson would put him in a coma Age 30+ we all know what happened I have much respect for Dave Sands but Hagler was the best middleweight (peak) i've seen and that includes Carlos Monzon |

Im a huge fan of Sands and believe he could have been an all time great had he lived but the Marvellous one would have been too much for him.

Love the Walker reference Josey. One hell of a fighter who didnt mind taking on blokes much bigger than himself! Definitely a beast at middleweight.
