Default Outfighters: throwing the right uppercut

Hi guys Im an orthodox outfighter

A lot of opponents that give me trouble are swarmers (think Ali vs Frazier) and so they like to come in with the left hook if orthodox.

Logically if you think about it the right uppercut should be a great shot against guys down low, but it makes the me vulnerable to that feared left hook.

So 2 questions: have you thrown it with success against swarmers?
If not, when is a good time to throw it? (what kind of opponent and what moments)

The right uppercut is a good counter to the left hook to the body, especially if you get him to reach with that left hand. You have to roll in with the punch as well.
If you dip to your right, get behind your left shoulder some, you aren't as open when you throw this punch. Watch how james toney throws it, especially in close. Another good opportunity is when you get outside his left hand, and throw it to the body.
The thing is, you can't throw it if you square up in front of a guy pressing you. You'll get countered for sure.

Don't think about the punch alone either. You have to realize you're close to him when throwing this punch, so think ahead. After you throw you could Roll under the counter hook and step to the right or come back with a left hook of your own or set it up with prior punches so that your sparring partner doesn't have the luxury of countering you.
Always think ahead and keep moving
