As a pundit Watt isn't too bad but on commentary he has always been terribly inconsistent (going back to the ITV days). Sky need to revamp their broadcast team completely- a decent lead commentator and Al Bernstein (who is working for currently next to nothing for Channel 5) would be desirable if dates didn't clash etc.

Watt does my fuckin head in at times. Sometimes if a fighter he wants to win had a good first round or so Watt will almost certainly stick with his man and applaud everything he does, sometimes ignoring the other fighters work.

I find it hard to give an honest assessment of Watt nowadays. Since that ESB thread about his signature phrases, I find myself disregarding the content of his commentary and just sit there waiting for him to drop, "They're jist errrrrmmmm punches!" or "Bang on the chin!"
His catch phrases are great though, I don't think he even realises he has any. They seem totally uncontrived and just uttered in the heat of the moment. |

He was terrible in the corley fight (Round 10 corley catches mccloskey with big right hook, badly shaken - nothing wrong with stopping it), then all of a sudden "What arghh eee, what is the ref doing?!!!" *At a 100mph* "I dont believe thisssss!!!! ..........*Almost breaking into tears* "He caaaarrnt!!!!"

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder .. no homo
This thread shows boxing fans see different things in different pundits / commentators .. Each to their own i suppose ... Ohh and Nelson is utter tripe

I like jim watts reading of a fight. For me the only other one who comes close is duke mckenzie.I remember jim as a fighting champion,as was barry mcguigan.cant believe how modest these three are about their own careers. For entertainment the banter between johnny and glen and the eccentricity of buncy are great, but jim knows his stuff.Comes across as a nice guy also

Mccrory is the man they need rid of the most, i have never and i do mean never been impressed by any of the insight he's given.
Mcguigan knows his stuff but talks over people too much. Don't mind Nelson and i think Jim Watt is REALLY knowledgeable |

Jim Watt's commentary in Mayweather-Gatti is legendary.
In a slightly anxious/aggresive tone (about Gatti) THIS GUY IS GETTING TOOOOONED UP!!! GET HIM OUTTA THERE!!! |

Don't understand the dislike for Watt by some on here. I think out of the lot of them he's one of the best.
If anyone needs getting rid of it's Nelson, he was a disgrace after the Khan fight. Did anyone notice some animosity between him and McGuigan by the way? |

he doesn't respect his opinion thats for sure On Jim Watt, Steve Kim and Gabriel Montoya from Maxboxing where talking about the differences between the HBO and Sky commentary of the Khan fight, saying the sky commentary where very accurate, that's what Jim does, he gets it right the majority of the time. |

"His legs are compeltly gone here" "He has recovered extremely fast" "He was defintily just hurt but he recovered so fast"
Every SINGLE fight this line is said when the fighter is never in trouble. Also, fighter who just got stopped must always retire. |
