True Cal. Whitaker did have a slight edge amongst the ringside scribes covering the fight and so it got me to wondering, but there is every chance more of the Ring staff voting on the p4p rankings had DLH ahead.

At heavyweight, these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head where the two guys were probably THE two best in the world at the time of the fight:
Jeffries-Fitzsimmons I
Jeffries-Corbett I
Dempsey-Tunney, both fights
Louis-Conn I
Louis-Walcott both times
Walcott-Charles I, II and III (I'd say Marciano had overtaken them by the time of the fourth fight)
Marciano-Walcott I
Marciano-Charles I
Marciano-Moore
Ali-Frazier I
Ali-Foreman
Holmes-Norton
Holyfield-Bowe I and II
Lewis-Klitschko

And to clarify, I didn't read your first post closely and so I didn't realize you meant the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. In that case, most of my examples fall through.
