One of the competitors who bombed out in the Superstars weightlifting event was Lou Ferrigno. Later on, Lou would compete in one of the first World's Strongest Man competitions, and co-held the overall lead with fellow ATG bodybuilder Franco Columbo at one stage of the event.

Correct about Ferrigno. Again, like Frazier, Lou didn't have the proper technique.

Danny "Little Red" Lopez looked anemic but could really hit.
Bob Foster takes the prize, though. Dropped Dick Tiger like a sack of wet cement.

Which led to one of the most resourceful wins of his post title career. As an impressed Ali pointed out from his broadcast position, Floyd may have done much better with Liston by utilizing the lateral movement he displayed with Chuvalo. A great example of how being physically outmuscled turned into a blessing.

I mentioned Patterson versus Ingo on Superstars in an earlier post. Ingo trashed Floyd in a rowing heat with outstanding technique, taking short efficient strokes. (Johansson may have been the overall rowing champion in that event. He really knew how to handle a rowboat.) Even in retirement, Patterson was an amazing physical specimen, the only retired athlete who I recall as choosing to compete shirtless against his paunchy competitors, butterball Ingo very much among them. For somebody supposedly so modest, he seemed justifiably proud of his physique. (And perhaps he put himself on display to psyche out the other retirees a bit. His abdominal muscles looked even more sculpted than when he was boxing.)

While Johansson was excellent on the water with a pair of oars, I do not recall him as being particularly strong physically. But his right hand may have packed more dynamite than any punch Liston had in his arsenal. Ingo is not somebody I think of as physically mauling opponents in clinches. He seemed to do it all with his right Hammer.

Bob Satterfield never looked that strong but had incredible power.

I gotta disagree here. Satterfield seems really cut on the films against Layne, Baker, and Charles. I think a lot of guys would kill for that physique.

Glass jaw, though.

People tend to pick guys like Foster and Breland just because they have skinny builds.
Loads of skinny guys are actually strong with it.

Foster never looked weak to me, not against guys his own weight. He seemed like the boss in the ring, not just based on power, but strength and resilience too. Against other light-heavys, that is.
