Well I guess that either you are a revolutionary maverick who has spoted something that every other knowledgable person has overlooked or you are wrong.

I lean towards the latter.

You seem to be acknowledging that a fighter from the 30s with a good chin would almost certainly not get knocked out in the first round.

I also suggest tyhat Cesar Brion and Tommy Farr are getting there.
Good points.

We do have to consider however, that Vitali did take some monsterous shots from men like Corrie Sanders, Ross Purity, and Herbie Hide. None were great fighters of course, but all had big punches. He also took som big shots from an aging Lewis until he was stopped on cuts, but that should'nt reflect badly on his chin.

How good of a fighter was Cesar Brion? I never watched any footage of him myself.

I suspect that in reality VK did have one of the better chins of the division but I am not ready to call it yet. A lot of people thought Sam Peter had an all time chin untill he went up against McCline.

He was limited but rough and durable with some decent wins.

Wasn't he a sparring partner for Louis or someone big at the time. Marciano Perhaps? I'm not really sure, I thought another poster mentioned it ages ago.

I understand that Marciano used him as a sparring partner.

I think the highest he ever got in the annual ratings was about 7th.

Sounds like he was probably a pretty a tough fighter, having the experience of sparring with the Rock and fighting a number of rated fighters. I think Duodenum ( another poster ) once said that Brion was projected by his handlers to be a better fighter than Rocky was early on, but obviously things didn't turn out that way.

Vitali's chin was unbelievable, in my opinion.

The Lennox fight is all you really need to watch to see that.

I feel he has a better chin than most of those guys. But I still favoured Louis, as Cobb was up his ally.

He took some sick shots there but I am always reluctant to draw conclusions based on a single fight.

Guys with fair but not great chins ocasionaly take shots that would shake the walls of a city. Take Lennox Lewis for example.

He took similar shots against Sanders.

I've never seen Lewis hit with a shot like the uppercut he hit Vitali with.
