i was just watching his fight against jds, i suppose his performance wasn't too bad at times, compared to later fights.
i consider he was 'past it' from his first ufc fight and on. how well was he fighting in his last few bouts in pride, could you see he was on the decline back then? was there a particular fight that marked his decline? |

Nah, was still in very good nick. But I do think age played a factor, not in terms of being 'shot' but more a case of cant teach an old dog new tricks
Just didnt adapt to life in the cage, had trouble closing down Sanchez due to the larger surface area, Gonzaga's elbows on the ground were totally new to him, and Kongo pushing him up against the cage was also something he hadnt experienced. Not surprising really for a man who had 50 odd fights in a ring, not counting the years of sparring ect. Only himself to blame for that imo Gonzaga throwing that once in a life time shot also had a huge effect on him, not nice to be finished by your own go to move, not to mention the literal toll a shot like that would take on your brain. He also bent his leg backwards too as he went down But all these things are just the after effects of the fact that he didnt adapt to the cage and came back after his initial run to face the likes of JDS when his punch resistance was just not good enough. His lack of killer instinct was gone too in his last 5 or six UFC appearances Overall a major disappointment, but he was not shot when he made the transition initially. We have seen his rapid decline since though. But that's the case for Wandy, Chuck, Tito ect. This fighting malarky takes a toll on you |

objective fans answer - no
pride fans answer - yes he was shot beyond belief and lucky to be walking to the ring unaided. fuck dana white for making him fight and fuck the ufc. plus it was a shit card and the parking at the arena sucked |

He was in the prime of his career when he debuted at UFC 67. He was past it when he returned at UFC 99.
After Gonzaga beat him he never regained his form, despite occasional glimpses. |

I would say Mirko achieved everything he wanted when he won the Pride GP (was never going to beat Fedor) and then when he went to the UFC the desire and hunger to adapt to fighting in the Octagon under different rules was gone.

It seemed like he either went off the roids or was on lower doses of it.
He looked soft in the upper body. Either way, he had tremendous financial incentives to do well in the UFC and he did fuck all. If Hector Lombard is a Can Crusher, why shouldn't Cro Cop's career be viewed that way? |
