I've seen a few posters on here claim it was close or even a robbery. Sumbu mugged Collins, which isn't surprising seeing as he was brilliant and Collins merely good.

But it was a very close fight. Not in any way as convincing a win as Kalambay's in their first fight. Kalambay was the only fighter I feel got the better of Mike on balance, since I don't really count McCallum's late losses. I had McCallum more or less drawing the first and quite clearly winning the second against Toney, and that was a bit past his prime. So Kalambay's win over Mike is hugely impressive in my book. Outboxing the master boxer like that. Haven't been done many times before or since. |

Collins took two at the most of the first six(and only then if you're a big workrate man, more a case of some even rounds) and then won the last two as the old man got on his bike to close out the win.The real meat of the fight he was actually outfought, often on the backfoot and consistentl bothered by bodyshots and uppercuts..then he'd do his bullrush charges and just get outlanded.Probably had his best success when he actually used his strong jab against the slowing reflexes of kalambnay, which he didn't do nearly enough.
I bet Sumbu's arms and shoulders were damn sore after the fight, mind you. ![]() I'm always interested in different takes on fights from good posters, but i think it's mainly atberry's crafty trolling and irishmen that have given Collins the internetz eastside victory here. |

That seems much in line with how i saw it
There were a few rounds in the first half that could be tough to score on an initial viewing because Collins was throwing a lot more and kalambay being past his best took a few rounds to measure him and up the workrate, but it's sort of like Jones Hopkins or Pea vs Chavez in the sense that once you watch the fight a few times and get a feel for it you see the ones you could have given to Collins\Hopkins seemed more because the victor was taking it easy for a round(but always comfortable defensively\pace dicating wise) or just coasting at the end to see out the win. |
