The last video especially was ridiculous, that first guy who was attacking was a total dick. He was going 110% on a guy that couldnt fight back, could hardly stand and was to nervous to develop any defensive ability. I could make a highlight video of me knocking out homeless people...i'd be such a badass

Not a one of those drills has **** all to do with becoming a good boxer. Even less to do with fighting. When you fight multiple opponents (I learned this as a white kid living on the border of a black gang 'hood and a mexican gang varrio), you have to keep your feet moving. Line 'em up and punch from the shoulders.
By the by, some homeless people are tougher than they look.

Sorry, but I could not disagree more. I get the idea behind the drill, but how often do you think they'd be able to practice it? The guy's melon was bouncing off the wall at times. One can't just rinse and repeat those drills constantly. If anything, they'll only become paranoid and grow a phobia or panic once they're in the pocket during sparring.
Their trainer is at fault here though. There were times when the guy on D was getting hit in the back of the head and lungs/kidneys and ass (second video).

The guy against the wall -= surely it will make him a used and abused fighter -taking too much punshiment in training and shorten his career.

Basically he has put himself up as a human punch nag - at least journeymen like Peter Buckely get paid for it.

Nigel Benn - did NO SPARRING - in training camp at all - and kept himself fresh - and then picked up sparring a about 4 weeks before the fight - Quality not Quantity. - now thats not have to be everyones way - but sparring in the gym - you dont want to be bashed up and leave everything in the gym.

I fail to see what the guy against the wall is really learning - he must just be seeing stars

That was one of the most surreal videos I ever seen - and almost tempted to hand the video into the police as evidence of a vicious assault on a helpless victim.

I agree - the short guy laying into them - is way over the top - he is literally trying to kill them - fortunately - he dosent seem that big a puncher - but he aint half having ago.

Whats even more ridiclous - the tall black guy - may have a bit more leverage and range sting in his punches - whips a few into the ribs - and the guys - goes down in pain - probaly pissing blood for a week - internal damage, etc - and he is just qucikly encouraged to get back up and the relentless assault continues. - almost defies belief.

I',m sorry but this is way misguided training - in my humble opinon.

OK - its not so bad for the bullys - dishing it out - but the guys against the wall - are just human punch bags = I know it resembles Roy Jones type stle on the ropes - sucking it up - but Roy is good enough to do it- these guys are getting hammered.

Few guys on here have said - dont whack the medicne ball against your stomach - misguided training - because it just damages your insides........well I think this one sided sparring is way more damaging to a young fighter.

In the boxing gym at my uni what we would do is

1. Gather a group of around 6-12 of us and make a circle in the ring

2. One person goes in the middle

3. That person boxes each person in the ring 1 v 1 for 10-20 seconds (depending on how many people were in the group // also the circle would tighten up a bit so it didn't just turn into somebody being chased around the ring)

4. Then the person next to you go through the same routine until everyone had been in the middle

Repeat as many times as you want

We normally did this with just body sparring but i assume full sparring would work well also. I think the idea was probably about conserving energy and boxing smartly as each 10-20 seconds you are going up against a "fresher" opponent who may box differently from whoever you had just fought, technique-wise and in terms of the pressure they apply.

This always wore me out, but was mad fun lol . Worse thing was being near the beginning or middle of your turn and getting hit with a hard body shot but yeah, something you may want to try

The best thing I've read in this thread (not counting for humorous value); is the Cat-n-Mouse drill. I've done that myself before and over time it can help really develop a feel for moving about the ring in different ways.. and even turning the guy in the corner.

For the record.. I know for a fact the Klits do this type of sparring.. although how much they do it..

I'm not being ignorant over PMs Ricki, I've been banned from sending anymore until I reach 50 posts haha. I'll have to get posting on a few threads and then get back to you.

Ok Mr. ***ton, nice!
I also don't quite see the point with the vids I sent before, but I thought it could be fun to post them here for the reactions - as expected
About them: I think this is a mainly MMA-oriented type of gym, no real boxing abilities being developed there, and those games are seemingly quite popular up there, for toughness, for bravado, for fun... who knows
Those games seem more of a senseless caricature of milder, more focused ways of training, in a reflexive, non-exaggerated kind of way

There's a boxing gym not too far from where I live who do a drill called Patter Cake, by far the most ridiculous drill I've heard of. The coaches aim with this was to develop the fighters 'tunnel vision' as he called it.

The boxer stands in front of a punch bag throwing straight punches as hard and fast as he can. Whilst he is doing this 2 training partners stand either side and continually punch the guy in the head. If you're the one punching the bag you have to try and zone out from getting punched and keep punching for a minute.

Feel free to give this a try if you like.

The most classy boxers I know of - just dont get punched period - thats their mentality - of course they going to get punched to some degree - but they not going to take needless abuse like this.

I feel sorry for them guys and a degree of contempt for them - who have allowed themselves to be used to put themselves against the wall to be abused like that.
Dumbest thing is the guy's heading getting hit, and then the back of his head slams into the wall. whathehell???????
