Default Joe Louis has a "private boxing lesson" with Gene Tunney?

This is in the run up to the second Schmeling fight.

Anyone know anything about this? I know nothing apart from that it happened according to a couple of papers around that time. Boy, that would have been fascinating to see.

It is mentioned in a few secondary sources, but I think there is a lot of heresay surrounding it.

Max Schmeling expressed doubts that it happened.

It was right in the maelstrom of the promotion of the second fight BUT the million dollar gate was already a lock.

Didn't Schmeling claim that Tunney hated blacks and wouldn't even spar with one ?

He did not directly say it, but he implied it.

Wonder what Schmeling would have thought of the Black Muslim Muhammad Ali? Or that good ol' black racist Bernard Hopkins?
