I've always believed the Layne and Louis fights in 1951 were Rocky at his absolute best. I also think during that time, rocky would have knocked out ezzard charles to take his crown in 51, though it would have been a great fight with rocky behind on points until late. Rocky was at his very best physically against layne, his one punch power better than ever, his speed at its best. I do believe Rocky's defense improved later on by 1955, but not by a signifigant amount. Rocky definitely fought more like a brutal slugger in 1951, and more of a cutie/swarmer in 55. Rocky's performance against Layne was one of his best.
