Default Bruno Arcari

Bruno Arcari

The 'brilliant' Italian southpaw Light-Welterweight.

Won the WBC Light-Welterweight Championship on January 30, 1970
at age 28.

Over the next 4-years, successfully defended his Championship '9-times'.

Vacated the WBC Championship in June 1974 (at age 32), and challenged
World Welterweight Champion - Jose Napoles.

When the 'super talented' Bruno Arcari vacated his WBC Light-Welterweight
Championship, the Italian had posted an 'incredible record' of,

60-2-0 (33 KO's).

His only '2' losses were results of injuries sustained in bouts that he was easily winning.
* A shoulder injury in his 'first' professional bout (December 11, 1964)
* A thumbed eye in his '11th' bout (August 10, 1966)

After announcing to relinquish his WBC Light-Welterweight Crown in June 1974, the 32 1/2 year-old Bruno
then turned over his 'Championship Belt' to the winner of the bout between
#1 WBC - Perico Fernandez (European Light-Welterweight Champion) vs.
#2 WBC - Lion Furuyama (Japanese Light-Welterweight Champion) in a bout held in Rome, Italy
on September 21, 1974.

After the bout, the 'Italian' said that neither fighter was worthy of the WBC Championship Belt,
but I have to give it someone.

Unfortunately, Bruno was 'never' able to secure a Welterweight Championship bout with the
'badly fading' Cuban - Jose Napoles in late-1974, though he was promised one by WBC President
Ramon G. Velazquez.

Jose 'Mantequilla' Napoles.

September 1974

'I'm not going to Italy to fight Bruno Arcari. If he wants my Title, he can come
to Mexico. The last time I looked, I was the Champion in the Welterweight
Division, not Arcari.'

Bruno Arcari was an excellent fighter and he beat some very good opponents. He would have had a good shot at Napoles, however Bruno was not known in the USA and the money outside of Italy would have not been so good

Bummy,

Correct, and right on the button.

Of Bruno's '73-bouts',

Only '5' were fought outside the confines of Italia.

Bruno Arcari had one bout in the States, and that at Madison Square Garden, early in his career.

Both Arcari and Locche challenged Napoles but I would've rather seen the two fight each other.

Bruno Arcari versus,

Anytime between 1969 thru 1974

* Nicolino Locche
* Alfonso Fraser
* Antonio Cervantes
* Ken Buchanan

Or 1972 thru 1974,

* Roberto Duran
* Ishimatsu Suzuki
* Esteban De Jesus
* Rodolfo Gonzalez

By May 1974, the 32 1/2 year-old Italian could not make 140 lbs. anymore,
and moved up to 147 lbs. by mid-year.

R/T,

I found the article,

Bruno Arcari signed to fight Jose Napoles, with the bout scheduled for Mexico
between December 10th and the 15th of 1975.

When the bout with Jose Naoples fell through, Bruno moved up to 154 lbs.

Then WBC Light-Middleweight Champion - Elisha Obed agreed to fight the
winner of the Bruno Arcari vs. Rocky Mattioli bout in Italy on April 3, 1976.

That bout ended in a 10-Round Draw, and Elisha Obed went to the Ivory Coast
to fight Sea Robinson instead, which was an easier fight.
