[quote=lufcrazy;13651373]Have you seen the ellis and floyd fight?
And frazier didn't duck them, he did indeed fight the winner and did indeed knock him spark out. Have you seen the ellis and floyd fight? Numerous times...probably live on Wide World of Sports.....I keep looking at the official final result and it says Ellis wins. Ol' Yank was moving and dodging those 8 touney fighters...he knew his young fighter wasn't ready yet. Durham probably envisioned Liston bouncing Frazier around on the canvas like Foreman did.....we aren't talking "Srap Iron" Johnson when you describe Liston. |

Lineal is the purest claim but certainly not the only one that matters. The man makes the belt and not the other way round.

A more interesting thread might be "how many lineal champions were the best at the end of their reign".
There have been occasions when the next lineal champion was going to be he first major contender who got the champion into the ring! |

As soon as Ali had his licence to box taken away from him in 1967,Joe Frazier was pretty much recognised as the best active heavyweight. |
