To be honest with you I am just now realising how big an achievement this is for Geale. Many Aussies have traveled there and few have come up trumps let alone twice AND on the cards is probably the most corrupt boxing location in the world.

Where does this rate in Aussie boxing achievements thus far? Just this accomplishment alone.

Behind Fenech winning three world titles in three different weight divisions & behind Tszyu & Darchinyan unifying all three major world titles with knockout wins against heavily favoured opponents.

Perhaps slightly behind Jeff Harding's epic win against Dennis Andries for the WBC LH title.

Am I too hard on Germany? I don't believe I am. Sauerland has had a death grip on western Europe for years and it's no coincidence it's the hardest place in the world to win. How long has it been like that? I reckon guys like Roy and BHop avoided it for fear of being robbed... And Roy had every right to be gun shy after the Olympics

geale went there with the right attitude and won those fights.

had he been a brash, trash talking big mouth, like one aussie we could mention, its doubtful he would have got the decisions.

To be honest mate, both fights were more than fairly scored.
Germany no doubt has a bad rep, but so does a lot of other places.

Quite a few knowledgeable posters scored the fight to sturm actually and it's reasonable to suggest that geale actually lost. It wasn't one of those SD
decisions that was really a 118-110, etc. It was a genuinely close fight.

Germany has it's demons, but not on this occasion.

hate to say it having been a Mundine fan in a distant but forgotten past, but Geale's achievements have surpassed Mundine's.

Don't need to go into too much more detail as I totally agree with Sandman's stance....

It's pretty awesome. TBH I think Germany is overrated as far as being corrupt these days. But he is the best Australian born fighter accomplishment wise since Fenech.
