I thought the whole point of a trainer was to you know... train and motivate you in the gym and the fight itself is down to you. I know boxers aren't the brightest of bulbs but they surely know when things aren't going their way and they need to change tactics without being told to.

I remember Roach trying to give instruction to Chavez to which he replied "yeah, yeah, yeah"... Roach then asked Ariza to relay something to Julio which Alex blatantly ignored aswell.

I think Roach has been more fortunate to get already great fighters come to him but I don't think he really adds that much

that said, doesn't mean he's a wack trainer, just overrated
So did the man in your avatar. Eddie Futch must be overrated

I was going to make a thread on Roach, I think it's all coming to a end for him personally. Sad but i think Pac's coming to end, i can see Chavez Jnr leaving. Got a feeling his dad will try blame Roach dunno why just impression.

Khan leaving as well, I think many will now look to go to other well known trainers. His illness isn't helping him.

Roach is done.

I think the light within him has dimmed.... not just physically but mentally. Neither of them have been the same since the Cotto fight. That was the zenith - Jonny Wilkinson and the dropgoal, Matthew Pinsent in Athens.... sometimes you're just never the same.

I watched the 3rd Marquez fight earlier today, and to be honest it was pretty sad. A clueless fighter and a trainer who wasn't able to impart his words upon his man... it's time for both to give it up.

yes, you had to be watching the hbo feed to see that

roach was telling him for the 10th time to let his hands go. julio replied but his tone was like "i heard you the first time". then ariza ignored him too. kellerman interviewed freddy during the 10th and fred said that chavez couldnt cope with the speed and from what i could see, he was basically admitting that chavez couldnt win

What annoyed me most about the fight is that Chavez only really started to do anything after his dad got the message to him

yes the interpretor told lampley what his dad was trying to get to him and chavez had a better 11th round and a superb 12th. freddie was just telling him to let his hands go but you could see he was trying to get into position to set his feet before he threw but he couldn't do it because sergio was too fast. every time he had his feet set to start throwing, sergio was gone. when he started punching on the move he was doing better. still getting hit but he has one of the best chins in boxing. when he got sergio going he was punching on the move and then planted his feet when he got sergio to the ropes and nailed him on the ropes with short hooks. he throws really good short hooks for a big man. you have to say chavez is a very big puncher. due to his size and strength advantages of course
