Ive got to go for Jeff in this one. Fenech is the more proven of the two as Carruthers retired way too early in his career.

Both great Aussie champs but Fenech would be too strong for Jimmy.

fenech was a monster bantam. his workrate and toughness unrivalled for one so inexperienced at that time in his career.

Completely agree but you cant discount the workrate of Carruthers. That first round win against Toweel to win the title is proof enough of that but I cant go past Fenech, way too strong.

I agree with the choices. Carruthers would have some success though, very talented southpaw.

so, too, was Jimmy's. Fenech deserves favouritism, but Jimmy did every bit as much at teh weight. One thing that may need to be factored in is that Bantamweight Jeff had very, very brittle hands. In this regard, if he breaks his hands before the end of teh fight, as would be expected, dont be surprised if Carruthers rolls over him later on in his carreer. Actually, i think at the long odds it would likely attract, Carruthers KO12 is a very enticing bet.

Fenech's hands were actually far worse after bantamweight.

It was his struggles to make the weight that hampered him at 118lbs

Gotta go with Rose, fought in a seriously good era for Bantams and would be too slick for Carruthers.

Sakurai, admittedly a fabulous boxer, gave Rose serious problems, and couldn't punch for toffee and had Rose down.

Carruthers' southpaw style and bigger clout may've caused Lionel even more problems IMO. However, as he was known to be more aggressive Rose wouldn't have to lead like he did in the aforementioned bout with the Japanese.
