Miguel Canto

I'll admit, although I love boxing I haven't ever seen footage of Miguel Canto. I don't know much about his career either.

For those who know a bit about him, could you recommend me some fights to watch? I'd be interested in any showcases of skill or wars, etc. Anything good really.

From the fights i've seen of him which are probably seven or eight i would say that IMO his best performance was against Antonio Avelar he really put on a clinic in that fight specially in the second half of the fight, as for wars forget about it Canto was too good a boxer with too good a defense to be involved in wars it just wasnt his style.

Canto was a fine pure boxer in the lower weights.
Always thought of him as a mobile, more offensive version of Nicolino Locche. Even though people see him as a defensive fighter he was actually very good offensively as well. Watch his fight with Takada.

He was the opposite of Gatti and Chacon. He was a slippery defensive specialist with a high rate of accurate punches including an ATG Jab. IMO stylewise hes the fighter who most resembles Willie Pep, he really was a true master boxer, other fights you can see are his fights with Betulio gonzalez(only seen two of them dont know if the other exists) first fight with chilean Martin Vargas,Vibonchai,Furesawa and Oguma II.

Takada is like the only fight where he steps it up offensively.

One dimensional boxer, but brilliant at it. Give him something to work with and he'll make you look a cunt.

Consensus and lineal flyweight champion for years, and proven against a range of styles, punchers like Avelar and Vargas, good offensive types like Betulio and solid Jap's like Oguma and Hanagata. Oguma is for me, his best opponent.

Watch him against Vibonchai to see how to give him a bit of trouble. Watch his first fight with Park to see why Chang would've beat Canto in his prime

For me, Canto could be argued into the no.1 spot at flyweight.

He is in no way a 'more offensive version of Locche' don't think that or you're gonna' be massively disappointed.

I rate Avelar as the biggest puncher in flyweight history, in terms of pure power and he was humongous at the weight, especially compared to Canto who would boil down to straw nowadays and be a complete nobody. And I think I gave Avelar only one or two rounds. Canto outmoves him and gets inside and fires off, moves out, repeat.

I was going a bit overboard with that statement. It's just the way Canto would slip and counter, not to mention the similar stature, he does remind me a bit like Locche in a way. But that's just me.
