Thompson took a couple of decent shots and was under a bit of pressure, but wasn't hurt in the slightest.
You could see it coming, though. German fighters on home soil shouldn't get that much trouble from foreign opponents, so the ref had no choice but to step in when he could. |

At first viewing I thought it was premature but after watching the replay Culcay did land several flush shots & Thompson wasnt doing a great job of defending himself. Culcay is a puncher & had already landed some heavy shots in the previous rounds.
Its hard to criticise the ref when he has the best view in the house & I always prefer a fight to stop a punch too early rather than a punch too late, which is what happened in Povetkin-Rahman. That referee did a far worse job that the ref for the Culcay fight. |
