Virgil comes across really knowledgable in his interview. Of course having Ward as your star fighter with the amazing technique and ring smarts he has makes Virgil look pretty good too.

Virgil is a great trainer. He really studies the sport. He is very short and to the point in the corner during a fight. Unlike many trainers who try to load their fighter with a ton of bullshit, Virgil says one or two things and that's it. When Froch fought Johnson Virgil was ringside studying the fight knowing he had to come up with a gameplan for the winner.

I always enjoy listening to what trainers have to say, especially the guys I've had an opportunity to speak with a few times like Emanuel, Brother Nazim, Ronnie Shields, Roger Bloodworth, Robert Garcia, Iceman Scully, the Mayweather Trio, and of course Virgil (and even Angelo Dundee for that matter, RIP). (Apologies if I'm forgetting anyone off the top of my head). I always am fascinated by their insight and knowledge of the game, and I especially love listening to first hand dealing with their trainer-fighter working relationship and their experiences together. |
