Pacquiao brings boxing to the masses. In an age where people say boxing is dying and PPV limits the access to the big fights to the hardcore fans, Pacquiao is the only fighter that can broaden boxing's horizons and bring in so many new fans. He is respected, by boxing greats, world class sports stars, other combat sport athletes, as well as celebrities, actors, singer and entertainers. And they all love to see him fight. Nazim Richardson once said, "If you are not a fan of Pacquiao, you are not a fan of boxing" It will be a sad day in boxing when he finally hangs them up. Who will take his place can their be another boxer out there that can take his place and have such a wide fanbase, and have the ability to bring new fans into boxing? I can't think of anyone at the moment? He is up there with Ali with his cross appeal status. |

His cross appeal is huge. The thing is, that those of us who have been around a while have seen similar situations before. Boxing was supposed to die down after Ali retired, then after Sugar Ray Leonard, then after Tyson, then after Oscar, now after Manny and Floyd.

It helps when there aren't any dominant American HW champions. There probably won't be another Asian boxer as big as he is or at least not for a very, very long time. But Floyd's just as big if not bigger in America.
What Floyd is doing is more impressive in my opinion. That's because he can become a big star as a boxer who has a "boring" style of fighting AND a personality that most people hate. It's easy to gain fans when you knock people out and come off as a humble person. But how do you accomplish the same as an arrogant, safety-first boxer?? Even someone like Haye, who has good looks and a fan friendly style, cannot and probably will not be a PPV star even though he's talked his way into a big fight in the past. How does Floyd do it? Although his undefeated record helps as a promotional tool, I can easily say Bradley is also undefeated yet people are not lining up to see him get beaten by his next opponent. |

He is just one of the current Boxers who does this.
There have been, currently are, and will be many more in the future. |
