I wouldn't berate somebody for putting him at #1.

If we could pick out the true significance of his record, then this might be where he would end up.

I don't really get into rating fighters..but for all his accomplishments one of the very best ever. Fitzsimmons partisans could rightfully argue anywhere top ten...and have plenty of ammunition to do it...

I rate him Australian, or American even, but certainly NOT English as far as Boxing goes.

I would include Barbados Joe Walcott also in the mix for his ability to tackle the "big boys" successfully...I would have Harry Greb #1 because of his amazing ability to beat much bigger fighters than Robinson tackled, and
I use this sole criteria. I know that Robinson great as he was,couldn't beat the big great fighters that Greb did as Tunney, Loughran, Tommy Gibbons,
Maxie Rosenbloom, Battling Levinsky, Bill Brennan, Billy Miske, etc. The only big boy Robby tackled was the light punching Joey Maxim...And I am convinced that Harry Greb would have easily beaten any fighter Robinson beat....I know Greb was shorter and a few pounds heavier than Robinson, but constantly whipped guys 15-30 pounds heavier than he was...
And I am convinced that Ray Robinson, along with Benny Leonard were the 2 best all around fighters ever...
