Ali humbled Foreman
He would always beat him ... hard hitting monsters always lost to Ali All of that stuff about the poisoning, loose ropes, injury were all excuses that Foreman has now admitted he made ... he now accepts the fact that Ali beat him and was the better man that night. He never really pursued a rematch with him because of how mentally distraught he became so this idea of Ali "ducking" him is a farce. |

I just watched their fight, and Ali proved he was in a class above elite. He dominated the fight winning every round. Speed Kills

Ali won nearly every round and stopped him, so doubtful. Maybe if Foreman used his jab more with educated pressure insteaf pf rushing in and being pelted with counters before throwing ineffective hooks to Alis arms hed have had a better shot. Ali was just a level above.

Ali took Foreman's soul that night. He looked like a totally different fighter against Young, so why would he suddenly become a monster again if he faced Ali?

Yes. Foreman had no chance against Ali due to his MENTAL state. Foreman had more than enough physical tools to beat the version of Ali he met that night.
Until Foreman found peace? He would always lose to Ali. |

If you take the time to watch the full fight you will realize that the rope a dope factor is very much exaggerated in commentaries of Rumble in the Jungle. Ali was giving the cleaner headshots throughout all the rounds. Foreman was just walking in those shots but amazingly strong man that he was, was able to walk Ali down in the ropes through those punches quite often.
Foreman's mistake was to get mad of Ali's sweet talk and punch himself out with those low body hooks he kept banging on when he got Ali in the ropes. The looseness of the ropes didn't have much affect at that battle. Foreman would have gone to body all the way, anyway against Ali. Ali was too precise and had great defense for an opponent to start head hunting, even at that stage of Ali's career. It was more about the heat and Foreman's fury that got him to make him punch himself out against a wiser and more experienced fighter. In a re-match Foreman would have been more experienced, but like many have pointed out he was mentally wrecked after the loss so it would have been an easy win for Ali if the re-match would've occured any time soon after Zaire bout. But that was not even an option at that time because Ali mentally destroyed Foreman and made Foreman retire for a good while from boxing. Last edited by RazzAxx; 10-08-2012 at 01:50 PM. |
