Something like 18 consecutive title defenses, 2 weight world champ, Straw and Light Fly of the past decade, and beat some of the top guys around his division at the time. One of he finest defensive fighters of this era, and great technician. He was past his best when he started losing.
I'd say he's HOF material.

If we're being completely objective, he avoided some guys. I'm not gonna devote any time to it though, because I'm too tired. He was a hell of a technician when he was in his prime though.

hard to say really, i can see why he would be but chances are he wont be. he can hold a title a long time but is that really noteworthy considering the wieght and competition. at least lopez cleared the division completely or at least beat any future world champion for the next 3 years and moved up. calderon was unbeaten for a very long time. thats is practically his claim to fame.
but i like his style, dominant while he had the championship, and his division will always be a hard sale. i think he might. |

18 defense of a wbo title = never fighting the top 3 of his weight class ever,
watered down defenses. no unification wins, lot the only one he fought typical ESB philosophy to let all boxers in the hall because he fought nearly a decade and beat guys he is supposed to and not fight the guys that pose risk some of his defenses which gets people excited about and count as something Jose Luis Varela 13-1-0 Carlos Fajardo 14-4-1 Jesus Iribe 16-6-5 Nelson Dieppa 24-4-2 (lost 4 of last 6) Lorenzo Trejo 18-13-0 Roberto Leyva 23-3-1 (lost 3 out of last 5) Alex Sanchez 29-3-1 (coming off loss) Eduardo Marquez 18-5-1 (2 wins in last 6 fights) Ronald Barrera 20-2-1 |
