Insulting Seamus! I asked my good friend Mr. Peabody to take me and 1994 RJ to 1919 in the Way Back Machine where we watched them go at it in a spirited 10 rounder in Erie, Pennsylvania. I gave the slight edge to Jones, Peabody to Greb in an awkward, ugly but brilliant affair. Then I tried to warn people about the Stock Market crash but Peabody tranq'd me. Then we had pancakes.

No way of knowing given the lack of available footage.
Of all those I have seen at MW though, I'd only favour Robinson over Jones given a same day weigh in. If Jones is allowed to Balloon to 175, I doubt anyone can beat him. |

Jones was NEVER a MW...
nobody ever allows for such realities when making these mythical match ups. RJJ was a Big guy in the trues sense, and fighting at almost any other time bar the last 30 years he (like so many more), would have been competing in a higher weight division. Jones is a L-HW cum HW, now this wouldn't bother old Harry nor men of his ilk, however it is considerations one has to include in these fantasy fights. Bigger fighters (HEIGHT & weight), can't suddenly become smaller people, nor could Greb or others suddenly become bigger men!!! Greb could beat him sure he could, as he did so many others, but Roy the Boy could defeat Greb too, so it depends on the weight, 175 is more realistic. No trouble for Harry to make, but Jones would work to stay there, I'd take Harry more often than not, but expect a Jones win every other fight! |

when comparing Roy Jones against Harry Greb or ANY other MW we must stipulate 160 pounds or less day of the fight...Roy Jones was born over 160 pounds...The oldtime MW
fighters made 158-60 the day of the bout as did other division fighters... Roy Jones was great at his weight, but comparing one great LH Roy Jones against an Archie Moore, an Ezzard Charles at LH does not take into account of the longevity factor in amount of bouts they fought versus Roy Jones and the great opposition Moore and Ezzard faced and conquered... Like comparing a baseball hitter that hits 340 for two seasons as opposed to another player that averages 340 over 10 seasons...A helluva lot harder to do.... |
