I don't think there was an actual 'Recognized' Champ in the division. Maybe Shane was close to fittnig the bill, but that was never official. And again, stil using some bullshit P4P ranking to make a point? Really? So, who said that last part anyway? I sure as hell didn't anywhere in my post.

Shane was definitely the champ in the division at the moment. Unless you considered Floyd the champ still, despite the layoff and Margarito beating Cotto?

Usually the general consensus. Which is why re-establishing a lineage is often times so diffucult. Shane was 'A' welterweight champ, not THE WW champ.
I can admit he was probably the closest thing, and maybe the most deserving. But boxing doesn't always work that way.
