Default InvictaFC getting no respect around here.

If you had asked me to describe my thoughts on MMA, especially Women's MMA a few months ago, I would have looked at you, shook my head, turned and walked away. I came to MMA through way of boxing and had no desire to watch it initially, although the guys around our house do.

That was before I was introduced to Invicta Fight Championships 1.
Still with reservations, I found myself actually paying attention, cage-side, and by the third match, I had forgotten I was watching women.

I realize that many of you on these boards think women's MMA can't hold a candle to the men, the talent isn't deep enough, etc. Well, all I have to say is "hold your tongue" and watch the Kaitlin Young vs. Leslie Smith battle. I honestly believe that these two female athletes put on the show of the year. It is non-stop action with no holds barred.

I'd like you to watch the first match between the two and tell me what you think.

Since this there have been two more Invicta Fight Championships.
Is there a place for women's MMA? I think after you see this, you might change your mind. Or at least I would hope so.

Waiting to hear what you all think.

You've written that like you work for them... do you work for them?

I respect WMMA. I train with women too and have no problems with it.

I think you'll find most of us on here have the same opinion too.

I don't think I've seen you discuss anything non-UFC, or anything at all, for that matter. What do you care?

I just don't like watching women fight. I respect their right to compete but it's not for me.

Please let me make it clear.....No, I do not work for them or any MMA organization. No gorilla marketing here. If I did, there would be no shameless promoting...It's not my style.

What I find interesting is how these females seem to put it all out there...much more so than the men (or so it seems). If I sounds as though I speak out of turn, it is because of much less exposure than you and others on this board, have.

I was primarily interested in the thoughts of everyone. Thanks for replying.

Had I been home and not at the fights, I would have gladly joined you. These girls/women are beginning to change my mind.

might just seem like they put it all out there because they have less skills (i am not saying that for sure, i havent really watched it to be honest). but you get that with novice class AM boxing...guys just punching each other in the face because they dont know how to do anything else...anyhow...

This is true. However part of it is because they don't have the same power. They don't have the ability to break an eye socket or a rib or even an arm with a punch or kick or knee, or to just light somebody up with one punch. You see it in the lighter weight divisions of the men too - they are more keen to stand right in front of each other and trade because they have less concern about being knocked out cold with one punch.

Still, it makes for exciting fights and the women often fight like they have something to prove. Which, in a sense, they do. It's still a little off-putting to watch two women beat the piss out of each other though. And the relative lack of power means that they can get worn down by cumulative damage - an outclassed participant in a woman's fight is more likely to take a drawn-out beating than an outclassed man, who chances are will sooner or later walk into the one shot that puts him down and out of the fight.

Lynchburg, added a side note.... how have you only posted 30 times since 2006?

I don't normally have a lot to say and have always thought men don't really care about a female's point of view. If I do comment, its on the boxing forums and those are rare. Perhaps I'll feel more comfortable after this and can contribute to the conversations on both forums.
