Again, I'd like to mke a dark horse shout for Ruben Olivares.
Ruben was one of the hardest punchers ever pound for pound shot for shot, he was an excellent combination puncher, he had hand and foot speed to burn, until Arguello got him his chin was rock solid, and he was extremely relaxed in the ring with a great instinctal understanding of how things work inside the ring, which simply can't be taught. He drank, partied, and chased women all the way up to the night before the fight, neglected training, and still proved himself a true, undisputed atg. Luis Manuel Rodriguez, Jose Napoles, and Jimmy Wilde were all extremely gift. Sometimes I think these talent discussions only focus on speed and power. There's a lot more to talent/aptitude than just those two facets. Plenty of guys are fast and strong. They aren't necessarily naturals though. The four guys were all savant-like naturals imho. |
