Thoughts by Tony Perez, on why he wasn't allowed to penalize or DQ
Muhammad Ali. Teddy Brenner and Madison Square Garden, A) Wanted Muhammad Ali to defeat Joe Frazier on January 28, 1974 B) They were hoping (praying) that Ken Norton would defeat George Foreman in their March 1974 Heavyweight Championhsip Bout. C) Madison Square Garden was planning on having Muhammad Ali fight the 'new' Champion Ken Norton in October 1974, and in Madison Square Garden. Hence, Muhammad Ali 'must win'. |

Round 7,
Absoluetly a 'filthy display' of sportsmanship from a 'dirty boxer'. Muhammad Ali grabbed the back of Joe Frazier's neck no less than '13-times', and held on for total of '1:25' of a 3-minute round. And '7' of those times, he purposely pushed down of Mr. Fraziers head, committing an 'intentional dirty foul'. Muhammad Ali was an 'unclean' boxer. |

he was young man at 43. He was 'intimidated by the atmosphere that night'. Tony could have easily warned Mr. Ali '4-times' for cuffing, and deducted a 2-point penalty in Round 7, and still had enough left over to warn Mr. Ali '7' more times. What do you call a boxer who intentionally fouls like that,,,,,,,,,,, |

Ringside Observer,
Fernando Ortiz, "It was a disgrace. Tony should have deducted 6 or 7 points from that 'dirty man'. A good Referee would have done that. No question, I would have Disqualified him. There is no need for that type of fouling in professional boxing.' 'I looked at him, and said 'you are filthy'. You're so dirty you need to take a shower.' Hey Muhammad !! |

British referee Harry Gibbs was once in line as a possible referee in a M. Ali world title fight. He was asked from the commision what he would do if Ali grabbed behind the head. Gibbs said: "The same as I would do to any preliminary fighter. Two warnings and then out he goes". Did Gibbs ever referee a Muhammed Alif fight??
But on the other hand - Tony Perez did some very poor jobs. Woller |
