JD,,,,,,

You're a trickster,,,,,,,,,,

Saturday - August 5, 1975

Estadio Roberto Clemente - Managua, Nicaragua

The 'famous' Elanora Baca 'knockout'.

WBA Lightweight Champion - Roberto Duran engaged in a 10-Round 'non-title'
Light-Welterweight bout.

The opponent, Nicaraguan - Pedro Antonio Zuniga Mendoza, also known as
Pepe El Toro (Pepe 'The Bull')

Pepe El Toro was the Nicaraguan Lightweight Champion, and was also the #4 Central
American Lightweight. A 5' 7" - 21 year-old, with a record (according to my file) of
18-1-0 (7 KO's).

Roberto landed a right-hand to Pepe El Toro's jaw at the 0:17 Mark, which floored him
in a heap. The Referee counted the Nicaraguan out at 0:27 of the 1st-Round.

The President of Nicaragua - Anastasio Somoza, asked Carlos Eleta
to have Roberto to take it easy on the Nicaraguan Lightweight Champion,
and carry him for the 10-Rounds, so the kid would look good.

President Somoza guaranteed Carlos Eleta that Roberto would get the
Decision, no matter what happened in the ring. All he had to do, was just
make the Nicaraguan fighter look good.

At the opening bell, Pepe El Toro came out to center-ring, and started
banging away at Roberto, hoping to surprise him.

Roberto loaded up with a left hook, and pin-point straight right hand
to Pepe El Toro's chin.

As the Referee counted out Pepe El Toro, about 200+ Nicaraguan's
stormed the ring, and tried to get at Roberto and his 'two' handlers.

Panic unsued, and as several security people tried to get the '3' Panamanian's
out of the ring and towards the aisle, a woman (Elanora Baca) grabbed Roberto
by the back of the neck, where then Roberto spun and knocked her out with a right hand.

JD

'Duran Not Too Proud Of Second Knockout'

In front of nearly 6000 fans at the Estadio Roberto Clemente
Stadium.

As soon as Roberto Duran had knocked out Pepe El Toro,
Elanora Baca rushed into the ring as Roberto was raising his
arms in victory walking around the ring.

She screamed, at Roberto - 'I hate you, I hate you. You are
the worst person to ever visit Nicaragua'.

Roberto then turned away, and started to walk back to his corner,
in an attempt to leave the ring.

She then grabbed Roberto by the neck, and he turned and
dropped a right hand on her head, flooring her and knocking
her out.

Roberto and his handlers were rushed down the ring steps and
down the aisle and out of the arena and to their dressing room, where
approximatey 200 Nicaraguan's followed and charged, and tied to break
down the door of the dressing room to get at Roberto.

Film Footage.

Will have to take some digging, but I bet it was televised in Nicaragua.

It was a Saturday Night Bout, and a 'Big Event' in Managua, Nicaragua.

A young 18 year-old Wilfredo 'Bazooka' Gomez 5-0-1 (5 KO's) fought on the
undercard versus Nicaragua's - Cleo Garcia.
