I'm sure I've read music enhances performance. Not a huge amount, but it makes a difference. I think the study was on runners.

Plenty of studies done on the benefits of music, I've witnessed the benefits first hand in the lab myself, too (we tested reaction time)

I'd definitely recommend it, some people it can have a huge benefit.

Read that it reduces concentration, by up to 18%. Having said that, whats that relate to, if you feel good working with it, carry on. Feel good factor cant be Bad.

It's a must for me. Nothing worse than having no music in the gym. It can be inspiring and motivating.

Unless you're a beginner I don't see why you'd need total concentration, motivation and relaxation would be more important for someone who knows what they're doing.

When I used to lift weights I liked listening to aggressive rock-type stuff like Rage Against the Machine.

When I'm shadowboxing/hitting the bag, I like listening to Hip-hop and trying to stay on rhythm with the beat.

When I do roadwork/sprints, I used to like listening to Hip-hop, but these days I just listen to podcasts. Helps me keep my mind off the fact that I'm running.

It is proven that music you enjoy enhances your workouts. When i lifted i would listen to "bodies" by drowning pool etc etc. It can actually help you train longer.

Yes, definitely. Lifting or training I need music.

I don't often run with music, but only because I hate ****ing around with the headphones/earbuds or whatever.

Music during shadowboxing, hitting any of the bags (speed ball, heavy bag etc) is a yes for me.

Definite no though when it comes to sparring or mittwork for obvious reasons

i like it especially when sparring, helps you get in a rhythm and i think its a good thing it reduces your concentration. makes you more relaxed and your boxing less forced and wooden, you do things on instinct more rather than focussing on trying to do something
