I thought Turpin's KO of Cockell was more impressive than Marciano's.
Marciano was more brutal though.

Cockell was brave but not much of a fighter.

Those are the facts.

Cockell was the # 2 contender...the British champion...and it was basically a test to see how his repaired nose would hold up...

What happened here in this bout.

Did Don Cockell just run out of gas, or was it the weight drain to make 175 lbs.

of the footage available, I have always said this was Turpins BEST performance, better than the two with Robinson or any other Turpin footage available. Randy boxed lovely, as for Cockell the same can be seen in some of his footage, one of his bouts with Mathews it's very clear to see Cockell was equally a sound boxer and of course there are a few others too.

the footage I provide earlier in this thread, Cockell looks the goods against Farr, a past it Farr, by far!!!

June 10, 1952

Randy Turpin's 'destruction' (KO 11) over Don Cockell.

The 24 year-old Randy Turpin was out-weighed by 13 lbs. (162 to 175).

And the 23 1/2 year-old Don, was 'primed for a loss', as he had been badly battered in 'two' recent bouts.

Marciano never fought Cockell. Rocky took on Bob Baker instead.

Not sure if Randy Turpin looked 'so good' or Dn Cockell looked 'so bad'.

Following his (KO 11) destruction of Don Cockell in June 1952.

The Middleweight - Randy Turpin did 'not' go on some unbelievable knockout streak,
as over the next 2-years he went 6-2-0 (1 KO) as a Middleweight.

Well, Turpin losing to Bob Olson the following year was not a good result for a man who had beat Sugar Ray just 2 years earlier ... BUT Olson was a better fighter than Don Cockell.

The 1954 loss to Tiberio Mitri was seriously bad, a 1st round KO, some might say 'fluke', but who knows what was going on with Turpin at this time. He was still only 25 years old but on his way out. This is a man who would kill himself at age 37.

In fairness outside of the ring Turpin went into decline not long after the 2nd Robinson fight.

Yeah, I've heard that too.
It would certainly have affected his consistency within the ring too.
