I'm not sure what sort of shape Johnson will be in. If he's in good shape, then he has a chance. If not, he could easily lose on points. I actually think this is a big step up for Fury.

Probably boring.... Johnson will probably show up just to survive, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he spent most of the fight on the ropes just covering up like he did against Vitali.

Their ideal realistic weights are probably 240 and 245 respectively. Other than length, there shouldn't be much of a size or strength discrepancy come fight night.

With Rogan, he sleepwalked through a couple of frames before waking up to TCOB - so you can't really lump that in with the Maddalone thrashing as evidence of him getting back on form. He's had one bravissimo outing since June 2011, and it was against maybe the 9th best opponent of his career - someone who isn't a real threat to any top 30 heavy. (and no, Koval never was) Even going back to his best W on paper, Chisora - that was the most inferior version of Derek from all four of his losses. He was markedly better against Helenius, Klitschko and Haye (all three of whom he managed to hassle to some degree; getting flat out robbed against Robbe) - and even on that night Fury didn't have it all his way against a green Chisora who would only go on to improve by leaps and bounds at world level, arguably more than Fury himself improved since then even taking into account having looked masterful against Vinny freaking Maddalone. ![]() Do we really think a rematch might not look different at this point?

Fury on the other hand has a lot to lose. A defeat vs. Kingpin and his title shot dreams would likely have to be delayed by 2-3 years. |

![]() ...and maybe bite off a counter right or two he won't like the taste of. (if Johnson cuts it loose) I've got plenty of time for the idea Fury gets hurt, but very little faith in Johnson being able to finish him off. |

On two weeks' notice, this was actually probably the best opponent they possibly could have got. Johnson's workrate doesn't always suck. He seemed scared of Vitali's power and just went on the defensive there. Perhaps he's more aggressive against Fury, who isn't that hard of a hitter.

Fury hasn't got the same heavy hands as even the lighter-hitting Klitschko, but his size could be an intimidating factor. Hell, Kingpin looked meek and timid against the smaller Tor Hamer. It could be he's unable to muster up any courage when stepping up in class at this point, in which case Fury could actually maul him into an inert shell and get that British style TKO. |
