Default What fights can I see the best version of Ali/Clay there ever was?

So which fights showed him at his absolute best?

Was it before he was forced to take time off boxing as he refused to go to war?

I have Terrell as his best performance, all things considered.

I would tend to agree with 'The Cobra'

As impressive as one could be over Ernie Terrell.

On paper, Ernie should have been in this bout, and been able to
hold Cassius fairly 'even'.

The best ever versionn of Ali was circa 1965-67. His best performances in that timeframe were -

George Chuvalo I Win UD 15 1966
Cleveland Williams Win TKO 3
Ernie Terrel Win UD 15 1967

Best seventies performances

Jerry Quarry II Win TKO 7 1872
Ken Norton II Win SD 12 1973
Joe Frazier II Win UD 12 1974
George Foreman Win KO 8 1974

Quarry II was a terrific Ali performance.

Absolutely dominant display over a guy who wasn't often dominated.

They weren't the best versions of Ali though. Ali from the FOTC was atleast 2 if not 3 levels above these versions.

I'd agree with Terrel. You can see within the first 30 seconds that Williams didn't belong in there with Ali as he wasn't even throwing punches despite being well in range. Ali was still brilliant against Williams, don't get me wrong, but the skill of his opposition that night could definitely be questioned.

Jerry Quarry was completely in another world.

Earlier, he had just witnessed his brother Mike nearly get decapitated by
Bob Foster.

Jerry had a nervous breakdown in the ring earlier that night helping revive brother Mike.

No, Jerry Quarry was not the fighter that he normally was that night.
