I would be more than happy to place Greb above Robinson based purely on achievements if I saw even 1 filmed fight and was impressed with what I saw.

Greb, one of the very greatest, but definitely not THE greatest in my eyes.

Robinson is THE greatest.

But of course you know all this anyway.
A victory over Sharkey is a great achievement? Dempsey was fading already, removed from his prime by several years. Who didn't knock out Maher, and with even greater weight difference than in case of Fitz? Then a victory over light cruiserweight Corbett adds so much weight?

It's interesting that ranking Jack "Manassa Mauler" Dempsey high in these arguments is treated with ridicule by many here, and the apparent 'myth' of his greatness and prowess is exposed as a fairytale prejudice of the generations who revered him so .... but the even more ancient mythologizing of "Ruby" Robert Fitzsimmons, complete with stories of his unique one-hit super-power and unsurpassed p4p Godliness, is held up to be valid.

I know, I know people who hold those views will try hard to convince that the gulf in achievements and "resume" is huge, but it takes some doing to stretch is so that Ruby Robert can be placed inside the top 5 or 10 all-time p4p where at the same time Manassa Jack should be struggling to make the top 100, as many here will claim.

Just an observation.

Armstrong did , licked great LHs and heavyweights, fought the last FIVE years with the sight of only one eye,and had 119 MORE recorded bouts than Armstrong did...What made Greb a greater fighter than Henry was Greb was more versatile, took less punishment in his fights as Harry was

I have Greb, Armstrong, Robinson, Benny Leonard, Langford and old Fitz
as my top NON heavyweight All time greats, for what it's worth....
P.S. I saw a past peak Armstrong lose vto Ray Robinson and Beau Jack
at MSG. Robby won an easy decision over Armstrong playing with him and my favorite crowd pkeaser Beau Jack outsped ole Henry...There will never be another Henry Armstrong with a pulse in the low 40s...Cheers.

My old man passed on 16 years back & you must have been around the same age group as this is just such a similar recantation but more politly put than the expletive filled wrath from my old man that swept forth upon this whippersnapper as i fled the house

Robinson was the GREATEST all around fighter ever whom I saw several times as a WW and koing Randy Turpin at Polo Grounds in 1951...
Breathtaking to watch in his prime....
But I use this test to determine who was greater P4P Harry Greb or Ray Robinson ? Harry Greb would most assuredly have beaten EVERY MW fighter or Joey Maxim LH that Robinson did, but no way would Robinson tackle let alone whip a Tommy Gibbons, Jack Dillon, Tommny Loughran, Battling Levinsky,GENE TUNNEY, Maxie Rosenbloom, Gunboat Smith ,Billy Miske,
Bill Brennan , fat Willie Meehan, etc repeatedly, all bigger than the
great Harry Greb...Though not pretty to watch Greb had the most unique and toughest boxing style ever, for an opponent to beat...

Remember who you quoted in the first place my friend. Wasn't me.

Anyway, Fitz is surely the definition of 'P4P' wouldn't you think?

Take it up with McGrain. Yesterday he said anyone that didn't have Fitz in their top ten was a ****ing retard.

I too D, learned from my old man who SAW Harry Greb give a horrendous beating to the 12 pound heavier Gene Tunney in MSG 1922...He told me he never saw so much blood pouring from Tunney's kisser, that night...Years later he took me a youngster to see the new sensational WW Ray Robinson
fight and my dad was so impressed with Sugar Ray. When I would ask him who would have won between Greb and Robby, he would snicker at me and say Greb was too strong and tough for Robinson...Greb and Robinson were
immortals for sure...Cheers D.

Well, I wasn't asking a particular person either, just waiting to hear somebody who agrees with that assertion (top10). He was an ATG, but I don't see him anywhere even close to top10. At least a good thing you didn't get caught up by boxrec error, that Fitz supposedly knocked out Jack O'Brien.

I've never heard of that and never go off boxrec. Only use it when I've forgotten dates and whatnot

I don't have him in my top 10 but he'd be top 20 and I'd have no qualms with anyone who put him in there.

What would be yours if you don't mind? Respect you massively and would love to hear. Would you have Barney Ross in there?

i don't think fitzimmons is the best ever, or has the best resume ever, but if the question is who has the greatest p4p achievements then he and armstrong are top for me, i have had it in my head all day and i can't reach a final conclusion between armstrong's 3 belts at same time or fitz 3 including mw and hw
