A guy like that should be happy to get a guaranteed shot at VK, title shots don't grow on trees.
So what you're saying is, Wlad has been fighting challengers who have:
  • NOT beaten beaten a legit contender
  • NOT big enough to earn more than 10K per fight

What does that say about the quality of opponents?

None of the other up and comers want to risk the 0 or have their careers derailed. Better to circle like vultures until Wlad really slows down or retires altogether. Say what you will about Wach, but the guy had balls and a chin.

Maybe in 2013, Povetkin, Pulev, Arreola, Price, Fury, or Boytsov etc. will knock off another contender and take the Wlad fight. We'll see. Hopefully someone in that lot shows some ambition and guts.

You're aware Larry Holmes in his prime for certain fights was making 10k per fight while the defending champ.

As I said,Sherman "the Tank" Williams would have put on a better fight than Mormeck and Tony Thompson. Williams also has a solid chin and beat the highly touted Chauncy Welliver and he rocked granite chinned Helenius.

Either way, this year was a huge waste of time for Wlad and he won't be champion for long.
He's gonna have to face Pulev,Fury,Price,Arreola,Mitchell etc.
One or maybe 2 of those guys are gonna beat him.

I agree with this. The reasons Wlad faced who he did aren't important because at the end of the day he practically wasted his 2012. It was one of his last peak years and he is moving up a lot of all-time rankings and he does little to add to it.

He will benefit from a statistical standpoint. He added to his amount of title defenses, years as champ, winning %, etc. But the three guys he beat this year will add nothing, unless Wach goes onto big things but I don't think he will.

I don't think for one moment Wlad is avoiding guys and he has a very proven record of facing the best. I'm sure he had trouble landing some of the fights he wanted but when he's done and his careeer is being judged none of that matters. What counts is who you fought and Wlad faced no one of any importance this year, regardless of where the blame lies.

David Haye wasn't of importance?

Chagaev for the Ring Magazine heavyweight title wasn't important?

Sultan Ibragimov for the unification of heavyweight title wasn't important?

The guy was talking about this year. Not in general. The opponents Wlad had this year were unimpressive, but it wasnīt Wladīs fault since most fighters wonīt face him. And he did take 3 fights this year and won all of them very decisively.

You are wrong.

If one wants to be champ one can simply become mandatory challenger with one of the four sanctioning organizations and then there are no contracts to be signed. No options. No rematches.

Simples. Not sure what's so hard to grasp here?

I was talking about this year. Overall, I think Wlad's competition has been good. I rate Wlad fairly high amongst all-time heavyweights and would rate him as my favorite current fighter. He has beaten guys who I think would be highly rated in almost any era-Byrd, Haye, Sultan, Chagaev, Chambers, etc.-all good fighters. But, the OP was correct, Wlad's 2012 was virtually a wasted year.

I agree.

Career high payday, shot at more belts than you can hold, shot at the 41 year old elder brother for a unification if you win = SLAVE CONTRACT.

My god.

Brittards hear Haye say "slave contract" and they keep parroting it. Really sad how much influence Haye/british sports media has over them.
