You do realize he beat Eric Morel, a shot-to-shit BW, for the belt, which means absolutely nothing because Nishioka was really the champ; and Moreno, who is also another blown-up BW.
He is not even really a champion and has never beaten anyone ranked at the weight, and you think he deserves Nonito or Rigo?

Mares is growing on me, but I must admit, his blatant fouling has me irritated.
Its not that he fouls, but he does so intentionally, and the ref always lets him get away with it, because he's a golden boy nugget. |

He has arguably fought more notables than Nonito. For sure he has fought more notables than Rigo (Fact!). Also, you have to take in consideration that GBP and TR feud.
How are you going to praise Rigo and bash Mares?? WTF man... |

You got it all wrong OP... Mares is on Donaire's level. The real question is what has Rigo done to earn a shot @ Donaire or Mares?

Moreno and Mares are both moving up to 122. 118 was filled with talented boxers and I respect Mares for wanting to fight Moreno who is a really good boxer even though he didn't have to.

Have you checked his resume? Other than he and Froch I cant think of anyone with a better recent resume. He fights the whos whos of his weight class and keeps calling out all the big names and actually fighting them.
Who else in that weight class would have fought Moreno? |

Anyone who had him top 10 at 122 before the Moreno fight was flat out crazy, and there were many. He still shouldn't be higher ranked there than Poon or Rigo.
I think Mares barely scrapes by in all of his big fights. I scored the Darchinyan fight to Vic by 1 point, the first Agbeko fight to Mares by one point with horrible reffing and fouling which I believe clearly changed the outcome, and the same exact story with this Moreno fight, which I gave to Mares 114-112 with an awful point deduction, iffy KD, and horrible fouling by Mares. He's the dirtiest fighter in boxing at the moment as well which is no good. That said, he's in or very close to top 10 P4P. |

Mares took on Moreno who is a beast, and he whupped his ass.
Who looked like the bigger fighter on fight night? Mares or Moreno? I thought Moreno looked bigger. |

Mares is possibly the dirtiest fighter in boxing right now and IMO he is a cheater and deserves no credit for any of his tainted victories. The fact is I cant remember him ever winning one single fight over a decent opponent without blatanly fouling.
