Donaire's performance against Vazquez was okay. His performance against Mathebula was poor. His performance against Nishioka was good, he struggled to find openings against a hesitant and aging opponent, but finished him off in the end with aplomb. Arce, well he's tailor made for Donaire, and very much past his prime. Donaire has not fought Mares, he has not fought Rigondeaux. In essence, his activity has been impressive, but did he fight the men people were calling for him to fight? No. Did he win spectacularly in any of these fights? No. Martinez fought two quality fighters, in their primes, when people (at least in Chavez' case) were calling for them. There's an argument to be made for both, but I just favour Martinez' two performances over Donaire's three. |

And talking about being taylor made for an opponent, did you know the odds for Martinez Macklin were wider than Garcia Morales 2? Sergio was like -1100. Anyway, as you said, a matter of opinion. |

Only just put my vote in and that brought Donaire up to level with Garcia.
![]() How it can be this close, I don't know. Garcia's had an excellent break-through year, but that hardly warrants him the number one spot over someone that, in the span of just 12 months, will end up with four dominating victories that gave him three world titles in a brand new division he's only just moved up into. I also don't understand how Ward can be mentioned, either. He's only fought once and that was against an opponent brought down in weight. Seriously, it's Donaire by a piss-easy mile. |

Martinez if he only had one more quality win.
Not to hold it against him, but he also got knocked down and nearly blew the fight. Donaire has been too damn dominant, never hurt and making his opponents scared to fight. Not just this year, but ever since he rose to prominence. You have to reward a kid like that. |

it's a shame that viloria has 1 vote when he is more deserving than ward or garcia virtue of his wins over segura, omar nino and tyson marquez all via stoppage. boxing fans needs to watch these guys at the lower weight more.
