Just something i'm curious about, before I came to this site I would of thought Ricky would be super popular among the british posters but in actual fact it seems a lot of people really dislike him, not just as a fighter but have an actual personal dislike of the man.
Personally I like him a lot, as a fighter and a person, granted he hasn't exactly covered himself in glory since he retired (the Cocaine scandal etc) but I loved his aggressive style in the ring and I loved his "normal bloke down the pub" type personality, as in all honesty, that's just what I'm like Now, i'm not looking to argue about Ricky with any of you, everyone's entitled to an opinion and i'm not particularly bothered if people like him or not, But I am curious as to the reasons. So if you don't like Ricky, why? |

cant understand why brits inparticular wouldnt like the man and how he's gone about things
nobody starts threads saying he was 'dodged and 'avoided' - because he set a blueprint for leaving self-centred promoters and showing how uncomplicated it is for a fighter to go get his defining fights, instead of whining about it and staying at home respect |

I like him, even got his life story on DVD (Which is really good btw),has a few fights on it as a bonus.
I don't think he's going to shock the world though with this come back, could see him being beaten and forced into retirement again. Would deffo go down the pub for a few cheeky pints with him though,he comes across as a proper sound bloke, alot more sound than alot of other fighters that's for sure. |

By in large, brits worship Hatton. They grossly overrate his abilities, his resume, and the mark he left upon the sport.
There are very few brits who dislike him, and if they do it's probably because they feel ashamed/betrayed about the way he was knocked back to the B level by the true elite of the sport. |

He's hated because he got KO'd brutally into retirement by Pac
Brits are known for hyping their athletes to high heaven when they're doing well (in all sports, not just boxing) then spitting on them and treating them like garbage when they fail. The harder they fall, the harsher the brit fans become with them. And few people in boxing have fallen harder than Hatton. |

I've got nothing but respect for him. He's overachieved in my opinion. I don't know how anyone cannot dislike or respect him, unless they've got a valid reason, and know him personally etc.
The way I view things is, He left Frank W and the WBU belt behind. He went to America to raise his profile. In doing so, he chased down the best fighter in the world, and goaded him into a fight. He made the sacrifice of fighting at 147, to get the fight. After he fought Floyd, he went back to America to fight Manny. He's coming back, because he doesn't want to retire on a loss. You have to respect him. He's fought the best two fighters of his generation. He could have stayed at home with Frank W, and milked the WBU, but he went out of his way to fight the best. His skills didn't match his ambition, but again, he's done everything that he possibly could have done. A true warrior! Regards, Loudon. |

They should definitely have fought. I don't think Ricky really fancied it, but it would be harsh to accuse him of being scared, when he went to America to fight Floyd and Manny. Regards, Loudon. |
